The Role
  • Collaborates with the VP of Engineering and internal stakeholders (i.e. engineers) on defining a DevOps roadmap. Clearly defines value propositions and tradeoffs, and generally operates with a high degree of autonomy.

  • Guides engineers and drives adoption on DevOps best practices around observability, monitoring, alerting, SLO/SLI’s, CI/CD, IAC, performance, and security. Comfortability teaching.

  • Builds, optimizes, and maintains CI/CD pipelines, deployment strategies, related vendor integrations, and infrastructure.

  • Leads cross-functional initiatives with SRE, security, and development teams, mentoring on DevOps practices.

  • Delivers solutions for critical projects such as cloud migration, disaster recovery, and infrastructure scaling.

  • Owns technical decisions and drives cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and observability strategies aligned with Zippy’s vision.

What It Takes To Be Successful

Bringing a self-directed can-do attitude to this role will be critical. As a Staff Devops Engineer you will play a foundational role in enabling our developers and supporting and protecting Zippy. We have a great DevOps foundation laid for our size and are looking for someone who can take it to the next level by applying their extensive experience, collaborative spirit, and willingness to mentor, guide, and teach to their work. RequirementsMust Have
  • 10+ years of DevOps experience

  • 5+ years production experience with non-trivial AWS infrastructures.

  • 3+ years production experience with Terraform.

  • Expertise in:

    • CI/CD pipelines

    • Infrastructure as code

    • Observability tooling for logging, tracing, monitoring, and alerting

    • Infra and network security best practices

    • Disaster recovery

    • Managing DevOps vendor relationships

    • Cloud platform cost optimization.

  • Proficient with Zippy’s stack: AWS, Terraform, GitHub Actions, Datadog, Postgres.

Nice To Have
  • Experience with Ruby and related build systems and tooling.

  • Experience with Python and related build systems and tooling.

  • Microsoft stack experience (small footprint here).

  • Experience with monorepos and related tooling.
