About The Role

Oversee the procurement of insurance capacity and business development. The successful candidate will coordinate the placement of 3rd party insurance and reinsurance capacity as well as oversight into sourcing and vetting new programs and products on behalf of our Mission Underwriters. This role requires a strategic and entrepreneurial thinker with a strong insurance and reinsurance industry network capable of developing and managing complex insurance programs. Underwriting, brokerage, and experience in the program insurance and reinsurance markets are prerequisites.


What You'll Do


Program Development & Placement Coordination:

    • Coordinate the development of new insurance programs for Mission, including gathering required information to develop submission documentation to assist placement and maintenance throughout the program life cycle.
    • Work closely with program leadership to develop and design comprehensive insurance programs accretive to their operations and Mission.
    • Prepare detailed underwriting submissions and ensure they meet the requirements of program carriers, reinsurance brokers, and reinsurance markets.
    • Coordinate necessary supporting underwriting data with various internal resources and third parties, including but not limited to actuaries, attorneys, and regulatory bodies.
    • Review and negotiate carrier agreements and contracts on behalf of the respective programs.
    • Actively manage and negotiate program insurance and reinsurance renewal placements, ensuring successful terms to support long-term growth and profitability.

Client and Market Relationships:

    • Play a highly active role/relationship with clients via email, telephone, and face-to-face interactions, dealing with third party, underwriter, and market representative queries.
    • Foster and maintain strong relationships with primary insurance carrier markets, reinsurance carriers, reinsurance brokers, and Lloyd's Syndicates.
    • Must demonstrate a strong working knowledge of the insurance and reinsurance market, including fronting and hybrid insurance carriers.
    • Demonstrate excellent technical knowledge and ability to communicate this to various audiences (Program Carrier and Reinsurance Underwriters, Reinsurance Brokers, Internal and external constituents).

Business Development:

    • Collaborate with Mission program leadership and external brokers to identify and qualify opportunities for business development.
    • Assist in designing program structures with Mission leadership, and brokers to achieve desired outcomes and actualize new programs promptly.

Program Management:

    • Ensure timely delivery and operationalization of insurance programs, working collaboratively with various stakeholders at Mission.
    • Monitor and manage the performance of insurance and reinsurance programs to ensure they meet the expectations and needs of internal and external stakeholders.

Compliance and Reporting:

    • Implementation and monitoring of agreed business plans, including weekly or monthly business planning meetings/conference calls with program and Mission leadership on the status of required actions.
    • Monitor underwriting and loss activity and implement pricing/coverage modifications as required in coordination with the Program leadership.
    • Work with programs on 3rd party audit compliance and ensure timely corrective action is taken as required.

Required Qualifications


Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Insurance, or a related field from a four-year college or university.
    • Minimum of 10 years of insurance industry experience, specifically underwriting, insurance placement, and program management.
    • Proven relationships with primary insurance carrier markets, reinsurance carriers, and brokers.
    • Prior reinsurance experience is preferred but not required.

Skills and Abilities:

    • Proven client relationship management experience with C-Suite.
    • Experience giving presentations to clients and internal groups.
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
    • Proficiency with financial and actuarial analytics, applicable to the profitability and viability of insurance programs.
    • Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, percentiles, and proportions to practical situations.
    • Strong understanding of insurance and reinsurance markets, including Lloyd's Syndicates.
    • Dynamic virtual and personal communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
    • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and project management skills.
    • Must have the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team environment.

Travel Requirements

  • This position will require at least 30% travel, including overnight stays.
  • May require international travel.
