This position will also work with facility management and finance to complete analysis on project equipment design impacts to enhance productivity, throughput and network capacity to financially justify strategic equipment investments. The ME will advance PDLs level of professional engineering expertise by improving overall production equipment up-time, line efficiencies, reduced waste and added line capacity through the effective design of automated equipment and enhanced flow of product within each network facility while assuring that all regulatory requirements are met. This position shall also provide oversight to the obtainment of all government permits needed for project implementations as well as tax rebates afforded. This position shall design and approve modifications to existing product flow and equipment design to optimize costs for the organization. The ME will be the primary liaison with all external engineering firms and operations and will review and approve all automated equipment design elements. The role will also monitor all facility equipment systems to assure that theoretical design rates are achieved and shall measure the performance of all mechanical components. This role will develop and support design requirements and testing needed for ancillary equipment ranging from chill box and freezer designs, racking and conveyor designs, new tote designs, manual and automated push carts, transportation cargo rack designs as well as new innovations within Material Handling Equipment (MHE). The Mechanical Engineer will develop, implement and manage a professional network wide Preventative Maintenance Program (PMP) by managing local maintenance teams on the essentials of effectively managing the companies MHE and Refrigeration equipment and performance. Once the PMP program is established, this role will serve as the engineering arm for all new mechanical design and changes to existing designs in terms of continuous improvement. A significant amount of maintenance work is outsourced at PDL so effective management of Third Party engagements (e.g. Dematic, Conveyor Handling Company and Wynright) are essential functions of this role. Management of parts and assurance that all critical replacement parts are on-hand when needed to prevent downtime is a key component of managing Third Party and internal Operations maintenance teams.
