CHICAGO, IL--(March 23, 2016) - The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has recognized Retrofit as a National Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP). This designation brings together the CDC's evidence-based formula with Retrofit's proven data-driven, high-tech, high-touch approach to prevent type 2 diabetes.

"Retrofit is thrilled to be recognized by the agency that leads the federal government efforts on the prevention of type 2 diabetes," said Mary Pigatti, CEO, Retrofit. "This designation allows us to bring Retrofit's innovative, scalable solution to address this epidemic and save lives for those at risk for this serious but preventable health issue."

One out of three American adults has prediabetes -- that's 86 million people. Forty percent of adults will develop type 2 diabetes. The cost of doing nothing is high since health-care costs for diabetics are 2.3 times higher than for non-diabetics.

Retrofit Diabetes Prevention Program offers individuals with prediabetes a convenient, expert-led and technology-driven lifestyle change program that integrates into daily life. This 52-week personalized program curbs the risk of type 2 diabetes by combining live or recorded classes with a suite of digital tools (mobile app, online dashboard, digital scale and activity tracker) for self-monitoring, an interactive online community and the support of an expert coach.

The program includes 31 lessons of diabetes prevention-specific curriculum and supporting digital handouts and resources that teach participants how to eat healthy, add physical activity to their routine, manage stress, stay motivated and solve problems that can get in the way of healthy changes.

Kathy Gosser joined Retrofit to reverse her prediabetes. Both of her parents suffered from type 2 diabetes, and her doctor told her that she was on the path to developing the disease.

"Retrofit has changed my life. Through the program, I have lost nearly 65 pounds and have reversed my prediabetes," Gosser said. "My doctor was truly thrilled that I turned my health around through healthy lifestyle changes. The fact that I have kept the weight off since June is a miracle."
