DATA SCIENCE & VISUALIZATION ASSOCIATE

Parliament Collective Intelligence is a burgeoning data impact consultancy helping to transform how we attend to social sector problems in public education, mental health, workforce and community development, technology access, and data-informed philanthropy.

Parliament seeks a Data Science & Visualization Associate who is creative, talented, and excited about the opportunity to transform complex data into visually appealing and understandable insights, enabling data-driven decision-making across the social sector. You will bring your technical skills in data science and visualization to collective impact efforts in diverse regions and contexts around the country; using data to bring about real, measurable change; supporting and sustaining long-term relationships with clients to help them use data to achieve their missions.

You will work closely with Parliament colleagues in other specialties as appropriate to the client and project at hand to gather requirements, design interactive data visualizations and dashboards, and develop advanced analytics solutions. You will work on projects for a variety of clients, including some users of artlook: Parliament’s proprietary data-collection and relationship-building platform devoted to advancing arts education in public schools.

You should have a background in data science and/or statistics and a passion for interactive data visualization that communicates findings effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders alike.

JOB FUNCTIONS

You will collaborate with other members of the Parliament team to envision and create visual representations of a wide variety of data from the social sector. Key elements of the role include:

  • Collaborating closely with colleagues and client stakeholders to address client requirements through data analysis and data visualization.
  • Understanding client missions, project objectives, and existing client data resources and capacities.
  • Developing an encyclopedic knowledge of external (non-client) data sources that can be brought to bear on client missions and project objectives.
  • Cleaning, preprocessing, and analyzing small and large datasets to extract meaningful insights – including conducting exploratory data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and outliers, and, where appropriate, applying statistical methods and machine learning techniques.
  • Conceptualizing, designing, and creating beautiful, insightful, and often interactive visualizations that address client needs and can be integrated into existing client systems and processes.
  • Collaborating with developers and IT teams to ensure data integrity, security, and scalability of visualization solutions.
  • Identifying new opportunities for bringing data analysis, visualization, and AI to bear on social sector problems.
  • Staying current with emerging trends and best practices in data visualization, data science, and AI.
  • Providing guidance and support to team members on data visualization, data science, and AI concepts.
QUALITIES
  • Deep curiosity and ability to think creatively about application of data to social sector problems.
  • Passionate about asking questions, digging deep into exploring possible answers, and engaging with others about the whats, whys, and what’s next.
  • Creative and innovative designer with a well-honed design sensibility and an interest in conveying technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong understanding of statistical methods is a must; an understanding of more advanced statistical methodologies such as machine learning algorithms and predictive modeling techniques is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Detail-oriented with a passion for exploring and interpreting data.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Adaptable self-starter who can create structure and thrive in ambiguous environments.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE
  • Proven experience in data visualization, analytics, and data science roles.
  • Hands-on experience with data manipulation, analysis, and visualization through Python or R is required .
  • Experience with other data visualization platforms such as Tableau, Power BI, or Looker is a plus.
  • Experience working with large-scale datasets and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) is a plus.
  • Bonus points for experience with non-profits, education, the arts, and/or any other socially-oriented sector.
  • Ideal candidate has a Bachelors degree in a data science or data science-adjacent field and/or in a fine arts field - we are very open to different educational backgrounds that may have led you to having this crossover expertise.
