7 hottest events for Chicago’s tech community this week

Whether you're a seasoned tech veteran or you're new to the scene, there's plenty to learn in Chicago's ever evolving startup community. Explore demo days, pitch events, and job fairs this week all over our great city.

1. Ready, Set, Hired: DialogTech's Speed Dating Inspired Job Fair, April 7 at 5 p.m.

DialogTech is going to be hosting a speed dating inspired job fair in our Chicago office on Tuesday, April 7th! This is specifically targeting those interested in sales positions, but will serve as a forum for applicants who are interested in any of our open positions to come in and meet our team and check out our offices.

2. Building and scaling distributed content management platforms, April 7 at 6 p.m.

The process of choosing and scaling a content management platform comes with many challenges. We will explore some of the design and technical decisions that go into the process of selecting, maintaining and scaling these platforms. In this talk Shawn Hilgart will also share what led our team to ultimately create our own platform based on micro service architectures.

3. A Day in the Life of a Product Manager, April 8 at 6 p.m.

Looking to transition into a role as a product manager? Curious about how the role of a PM differs depending on where you work? Join us for a panel to learn more about what a product manager does day-to-day. 

4. DBCx: Karl Hughes, April 9 at 5:30 p.m.

Engineers miss out on a lot of opportunities because they are either afraid to speak up or not comfortable doing so. While technical talent is certainly in demand, technically minded people who can bridge the gap between engineers and business people are often even more crucial to well-rounded teams. Whether you're a senior engineer who's looking to move into management or a junior engineer who's just starting out, communication and networking skills are among of the most valuable assets that you can have. In this talk, we'll go over some steps you can take to actively improve these "soft" skills that aren't as hard as you might think.

5. Flashpoint Chicago Demo Day 2015, April 9 at 6 p.m.

At this event, the founders in Flashpoint's latest batch will present, and share where they are headed next.  Introductory remarks will be given by Merrick Furst, Flashpoint's Director and Distinguished Professor of Computing at Georgia Tech.

6. VC Insights: Redefining the Startup – Incubator Relationship, April 13 at 5:30 p.m.

An opportunity to gain insight on the entrepreneurial journey, fundamentals of funding, and what the process is really like from innovators, entrepreneurs and investors, who have made their way through.

7. Elmspring Session 2.0 Pitch Day, April 13 at 6 p.m.

Emerging real estate tech start-ups present their concepts to prospective clients, investors, and industry leaders.
