According to Crain’s, Phil Nevels has announced his departure from World Business Chicago in order to launch a new angel-investment network in the city.

Nevels will open the Chicago branch of NextGen Angels, which is based in Washington, D.C. and has operations in Austin, New York, and Boston.

Nevels co-founded Power2Switch—a price-comparison space for electricity providers—alongside Seyi Fabode, which they sold in 2013. That lead to Nevels’ two-year appointment with World Business Chicago, where he captained ChicagoNext, its tech-recruitment initiative, as executive director.

Prior to Power2Switch, Phil spent nearly eight years in tech-related industries, including several years at Accenture where he implemented technology solutions to improve supply chain processes at Fortune 500 clients and a stint at Orchestria, a late-stage startup acquired by CA Technolgies in early 2009, where he helped build their Chicago office. Phil has a degree in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Nevels will be encouraging businesses and entrepreneurs in the city to invest in the city’s thriving technology startup ecosystem.
