What a week for tech innovation in Chicago! From Techstars Demo Day to Chicago Ideas Week, Chicago has one of the busiest weeks of the year for its ever-growing tech scene. Here are five of this week’s can’t miss events, but feel free to head on over to our events calendar to find more.

Dev Bootcamp Chicago October Info Session, October 12 at 5:30 p.m.

Thinking about switching careers and becoming a software developer? Interested in learning how to code? Want to learn more about immersive bootcamps? Dev Bootcamp is a 19-week intensive program for beginners, dabblers, and those with some prior programming experience. For the inside scoop from Dev Bootcamp students, instructors, and alumni, come to their Info Session and Tour. Changing the game of sports with wearable tech, October 13 at 6 p.m.

Equipped with sensors and access to our bodies 24/7, wearable technology is changing the game of sports. Professional and amateur sports teams are employing wearables to measure and monitor athletes, improve performance, train, scout and even mitigate the risk of injury. The night will kick off with a presentation by Catapult, the global leader in athlete analytics who will present their sports tech before hearing from ShotTracker, a wearable system that boosts basketball players' performance by measuring shot attempts, makes, misses automatically. This will be followed by a panel discussion exploring the impact of wearables on sports, both professional and amateur, especially looking at how wearables are impacting training and performance.

Coaching for Growth Information Session, October 14 at 11:30 a.m.

Dignitas, an investment banking and family office firm, and The Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce invite you to learn more about our Coaching for Growth (C4G) program, offered only once a year to small business owners. Through training sessions and direct one-on-one coaching, this program focuses on goal setting, financial and management assessments, market analysis, and planning for growth.

Block Party Competition, October 14 at 6 p.m.

Join the Ounce at a block party and challenge your peers in a giant block building competition. On October 14th, Chicago’s creative and tech communities will compete to establish nothing less than dominance. At the Block Party, the surfaces teams are competing on will become increasingly unstable as the competition advances to illustrate how difficult it is for a child to build a life of success on a shaky foundation. 

Halloween-Themed Typography Basics + Happy Hour, October 16 at 5:30 p.m.

With Halloween approaching, join in the fun for some early trick-or-treating, mingling, beer, and an introduction to the world of typography! Learn all about font types (spooky, haunted and otherwise tricky) and make new friends while having a drink.
