Love your job: 8 awesome Chicago companies hiring this month

How are you going to spend your Chicago summer?

Option One: Toil away, tucked inside some miserable cubicle at a go-nowhere job where your supervisor doesn’t even know your name. Option Two: Jumpstart your career by landing a gig at a fast-paced tech company, where you’ll help solve today’s problems with the tech of tomorrow.

For those of us who stand behind option two, here are some great Chicago tech companies that will be spending their own summers looking for candidates exactly like you. Fire up those resumes, Chicago, and prepare for a brand new start.

What they do: Seriously, if you live in Chicago, have ordered takeout in the last decade and haven’t heard of (and been using) Grubhub’s food ordering and delivery platform, you’ve been living under an asteroid-sized rock.

Coolest perks: What you (forgivably) might not have known is how cool Grubhub is to work for. Take, for instance, the $18 worth of Grubhub credit employees get each week. If that doesn’t sate your appetite, maybe the unlimited PTO will.

Note from the boss:  "The people who work at Grubhub are passionate about food and obsessed with creating the best possible experience for diners," said Cory Schroeder, senior director of talent acquisition at Grubhub. "Our ideal candidate is action-oriented, quickly adapts to change and excels at working collaboratively — and of course, they are eager to solve the challenging and fun problems we tackle every day, with a positive attitude and innovative spirit."

What they do: PowerReviews’ technology amplifies and empowers the voice of the consumer by providing them with a means to give feedback and reviews online. And in doing so, the company’s ratings, review and Q&A software helps brands increase conversion and improve products along the way, too.

Coolest perks: PowerReviews offers a full benefits package including health insurance, a free telehealth service and 401k, but they don’t stop there. The company also offers flexible time off, monthly all hands meetings, casual work attire, lunch-and-learns, philanthropy activities, company events like happy hours and birthday celebrations and employee-run committees to continue to make PowerReviews one of the best places to work.

Note from the boss: "While we are always looking to hire first-rate talent, the best candidates are those that can not only thrive in our high-performance culture, but also embody our values of transparency, communication and accountability," said Kira Meinzer, VP of HR at PowerReviews. "We look for individuals who aren't afraid to work hard and have some fun while doing so."

What they do: ParkWhiz is quickly becoming one of Chicago’s premier B2C apps. The company helps users find and book parking spots, saving both time and money along the way. To top it all off, they’ve already driven their way into 150 cities across the country.

Coolest perks: Unlimited PTO, commuter benefits, discounted gym membership and stock options (among other awesome additional perks).

Note from the boss: “We've been around for a while but still operate as a startup,” said James Lewis, ParkWhiz’s director of talent acquisition. “As such, curious team players who want to get their hands dirty building something that improves people's day to day — those are the people who succeed here.”

What they do: In a world plagued by exorbitant medical bills, Procured Health is taking a patient-first, tech-powered stand to reduce the cost (and improve best practices) of medical devices. (Update: Procured Health is now Lumere.)

Coolest perks: They’ve got it all: intramural sports leagues (kickball, basketball, and softball), beer on tap, monthly catered lunches, a casual dress environment and more.

Note from the boss: "The power of Procured Health is in our smart, young, enthusiastic team. We look for sharp minds and strategic thinkers — but more importantly, we look for team members who are eager to contribute to our growing company,” said CEO Hani Elias. “At Procured, everyone makes an impact."

What they do: CSG International's suite of business support solutions help companies stay nimble in a quickly-evolving tech world. They lend their industry expertise, technology and delivery models to help other businesses thrive.

Coolest perks: You name it, they’ve (likely) got it: competitive pay, work from home opportunities, casual dress, happy hours, group outings and more.

Note from the boss: “With almost 30 years of building a solid, top-notch culture with bright, dedicated and fun individuals – CSG International is the type of place where you enjoy coming to work every day,” said Ross Kerr, VP of client relations. “On top of that, our Chicago office is focused on delivering solutions to next generation media and entertainment companies putting us at the forefront of technology advances and cutting edge markets. We are proud of what we do and want candidates who will build on top of that pride.”

What they do: Used by more than 150,000 businesses the world over, ActiveCampaign is reimagining the way marketing and sales looks at small businesses. Their platform helps automate marketing and sales processes so that professionals can focus on what matters most: relationships.

Coolest perks: Besides daily catered lunches and options for dual monitors or stand-up desk workstations, ActiveCampaign also boasts 401k contributions,100 percent covered medical and 100 percent paid monthly Metra or CTA fare (among others)

Note from the boss: "ActiveCampaigners are resourceful, empathetic, and results-driven. Company-wide, every day, we go above and beyond for our users," said CEO and Founder Jason VandeBoom. "Our user base is surging and our platform is more powerful with every product release, so we're looking for candidates who share these qualities and want to help build the future of marketing and sales automation."

What they do: VelocityEHS develops a software that helps companies reach all of their environmental, health, safety and sustainability goals — and meet compliance standards each step of the way.

Coolest perks:  Shared rooftop access, summer hours and a volunteer day opportunity are our favorites, but they’ve also got a game room and a package deal of traditional benefits like 401k with company matching and PTO, too.

Note from the boss: “We place a high value on teamwork and understand that a great culture and work environment help to generate innovative ideas,” said Glenn Trout, president and CEO of VelocityEHS. “Our employees are self-motivated, hard-working and enthusiastic about impacting people’s lives in a meaningful way. At VelocityEHS, success is an everyday occurrence.”

What they do: Label Insight is working to bring transparency to the food industry. Their SaaS data solutions help brands, retailers, and consumers get on the same page when it comes to what’s in your food and how information about those ingredients is communicated.

Coolest perks: Take your dog to work-days, in-house library and book club, team happy hours plus some awesome standards, like 401k and great health benefits (to name a few).

Note from the boss: “Label Insight is growing rapidly, and our culture is defined by our people. We embrace uniqueness and look for candidates who reflect our values,” said CTO and Co-Founder Dheeraj Patri. “Ideal candidates have curious minds, are natural problem solvers, constantly seek improvement and aren’t afraid of a challenge.”
