Daily Spot keeps personal wellness exciting with ever-changing routines

Sticking with an exercise routine can be boring, but it’s hard to know what switch up without losing your momentum. Daily Spot launched earlier this year to bring ever-changing workouts to your smartphone, along with daily updates to nutrition, meditation and wellness lessons.

Founder Scott Levy launched the subscription-based app to save himself some time.

“At some point, I realized I was wasting so much time planning routines or figuring out how to get better at something that by the time I started doing it I was almost tired of it,” he said. “So I wanted to find a solution that would work specifically for me, and if would work for me it would work for other people.”

The app’s workouts are created by trainers, nutritionists and other experts and range from beginner-level options that use household items for workouts to full gym routines requiring some serious stamina. But the app only shows you routines you can actually access thanks to a quick survey when you first launch it.

Daily Spot recently reached the Popular section of the iOS Fitness & Exercise charts, but it wasn’t an accident. The personal trainers Levy worked with to build the routines also helped send the initial users to the app.

“In the beginning it was trainers who … would send some clients over,” he said. “Now it's actually people who are just finding this app and incorporating it into their gym routines or daily routines.”

Levy hopes to get more routines on the apps for more niche workouts, including routines for bodybuilders looking to add mass or stay-at-home moms who just want to get fit. Levy is also hoping to expand the other wellness programs like nutrition and meditation courses.

“If you have something that you're looking to improve or to incorporate into your life, we want to make it very easy for you to have access to experts who will give you the direction you need,” Levy said. “So right now, we're still six months in and moving toward the specific niches, but each time we add a new program it expands a little bit further and helps a new group out for what their goals are.”

Subscriptions to Daily Spot currently cost $12.99 per month, but users get access to every workout, recipe and other wellness routine on the site, along with the daily changeups in routines to keep things interesting.

Levy has bootstrapped the app’s creation so far, hiring a few contractors to help him build it out. But he’s already profitable, and while he would partner with the right investor, he’s focused on expanding the app’s capabilities first.
