Cubs Win!
Unless you've been living under a noise canceling rock, you probably noticed that the Chicago Cubs ended its 108 year World Series drought last night. For context, 1908, the year of the Cubs' last World Series victory, was also the year Theodore Roosevelt declined to run for a third term as president.

Chicago Ventures announces $66M second fund
This week, one of Chicago’s premier venture capital firms, Chicago Ventures, announced the close of a $66 million fund. The firm, which hones in on seed stage tech companies (especially in Chicago) has already invested in about 27 companies with the new money. [Chicago Tribune]
PowerReviews is moving into new headquarters after doubling team size
Talk about fast growth. PowerReviews, a company that builds ratings and reviews software, is already moving into a new, bigger space to accommodate a surging local headcount that’s doubled in the past year. The new office at 1 N. Dearborn will house about 300 employees. [Crain’s]
Chicago-based Morningstar is adding another floor to its headquarters, tacking on an additional 29,000 in square feet to open up space for about 185 additional employees — many of whom will join the company’s growing tech department. The company also announced the appointment of a chief technology officer (Mitch Shue), chief data officer (James Rhodes) and chief software officer (Rick Bowman). [Crain’s]
Uber Eats adds surge pricing in Chicago
This week, Chicagoans using Uber’s on-demand food delivery service, Uber Eats, during peak hours may notice a jump in prices. The company announced it’s adding surge pricing to the service to when there’s high demand. [Chicago Tribune]
Illinois universities second only to California in computer science grads
According to data from the Illinois Science and Technology Coalition, Illinois universities graduated nearly 2,500 computer science majors last year. That is an increase of 23 percent from the year before, and puts the state in second place nationally, with California in first. [Crain's]
Ascent Technologies hires PrettyQuick CTO
This week, enterprise software company Ascent Technologies announced the appointment of Chris Doyle to its executive team. Doyle was formerly CTO at PrettyQuick, staying with the company through its acquisition to Groupon. [Press release]
