VentureSHOT hosted an Alternative Funding Strategies brown-bag lunch and learn on Feb 2, 2012.  There were 22 attendees with an interest in funding ranging from $50,000 to $750,000 and one $5,000,000 funding opportunity.  Most were in the $250,000 to $500,000 range.

The majority were Tech Companies / Entrepreneurs with several other very interesting projects and company types also taking part in the collaboration.  There were several walk-ins and last minute registrations on eventbrite, totaling 22 attendees.

The group included several serial entrepreneurs, first time entrepreneurs, investors and even a couple of inventors.

Many thanks to American Chartered Bank - Aren Reick "the entrepreneur friendly banker" for Sponsoring both VentureSHOT and the AFS Event...and providing some ACB drinks too!

The Topics discussed included descriptions of alternative funding strategies, included:

  • Individual Angel Investors
  •  Angel Groups
  • Venture Capital
  • Private Lenders
  • Equity Investors
  • Self Directed IRAs
  • Convertible Debt
  • Other Alternative Funding Strategies

o   Strategic Partners

o   Customer Financing

    Supplier Financing

    Factoring & A/R Financing

    Inventory Financing, Etc.

The event began with a significant amount of discussions about the different types of funding options and the specific differences between the funding types / sources.

Then the floor was opened to collaboration, where the group discussed the most appropriate funding strategies for the different business types and business sizes.

Other important topics were the difference between Project Financing (i.e. funding one mobile app vs many) and Funding Ongoing Businesses.

The event was scheduled from 11:30am – 1pm.  However, the topic was so popular that even after 1pm, the majority of the attendees stayed till almost 2:30 continuing to collaborate and discuss the topics.  Overall this was an extremely beneficial and well received event.
