Since launching last April, Dev Bootcamp Chicago has graduated 11 cohorts of students, with 2 cohorts graduating within the last month. With over 175 students graduated, you'd think Chicago tech firms would be satiated, but we're actually seeing an uptick in demand for our graduates.

Some examples:

While 85% of our students land jobs within 3 months of graduating, they've rarely landed jobs within a month. A trio of our early March graduates landed jobs within just 3 weeks of graduating.

At both of our March graduations this year, we had more employers in the room trying to hire our graduates than we had graduates to hire.

We're starting to see employers from other Midwestern cities flying to Chicago just to get a crack at meeting our graduates on graduation day. Last Friday we had CoverMyMeds visiting from Columbus, Ohio.

If you're not familiar with our program, or if you want to hear about some recent updates, here's the rundown:

  • Students spend 9 weeks learning remotely from home for 10-15 hours/week. Then the spend 9 weeks on-site in River North, immersed 70-80 hours/week in our program.
  • Students learn all of the technologies in the typical Ruby on Rails stack from jQuery to RSpec, with a heavy emphasis on learning fundamental components vs. learning the framework.
  • Students spend a significant amount of time in soft skills training, including empathy and improvisation.
  • We have 10 full-time teachers on our Chicago staff, with an average of 7 years of professional software development experience apiece.
  • We have a 10:1 student/teacher ratio.
  • Students participate in yoga twice a week.
