The Founder's Report, Beer with a purpose

We all have our own method for buying beer; you might only look at the design of the can or you look for the best deal.  But regardless of what you choose, you generally know that your money is going to that brewery.  And why shouldn’t it?  You bought that beer in exchange for money, its basic capitalism.

Dog Tag Brewing Foundation is trying to change that.  They’re the brewers of Legacy Lager, a delightfully light and drinkable brew.  Their beer is great but it is their mission that brings Dog Tag into a class of its own.  100% of their profits go towards grants and legal aid for Gold Star Families.  Gold Star Families are families who have lost a son or daughter in the line of duty, families that have made the ultimate sacrifice.

At this point you’re thinking the story can’t get any better, a brewery is making excellent beer and is then donating all their profits to families that truly deserve them.  Yet, there is one more aspect that I have not yet introduced.  And that is the Pabst Brewing Company.  You see Pabst and Dog Tag have partnered together to bring their Legacy Lager to the national stage.  A few months back, the only people who knew about Dog Tag were those fortunate enough to live in Bozeman Montana.  They were a small microbrew that had two things going for them: a great beer and a great mission.

Working with Pabst, Dog Tag can now bring their mission to a national audience.  Which means that we all have to calculate a new variable the next time we are in the beer aisle.  You can use the design on the can or the price to help you make your decision, but I charge you to add who will benefit to your consideration.  Who will benefit from you purchase, will it be an international beer conglomerate or a newly minted family foundation?
