I created a free iPhone App: Phrase Pop - Popular Phrases from around the world!

Last month I had a minor success in my entrepreneurial life with the release of my first iPhone application called Phrase Pop.

The idea behind 'Phrase Pop' came to mind almost 2 years ago in the summer of 2011 - but it was shelved at the time because I set my mind on another project.

The idea rekindled when my plans to visit my family in India over Christmas break last year (2012) were cancelled due to conditions out of my control. Since everyone else flees Chicago over Christmas break and work gets real slow, I suddenly had a lot of free time to spend on projects I always wanted to do but never really got around to doing. I've always been interested in "doing my own thing" so I thought that this was the perfect time for me to take one more (I have taken a couple of stabs before and failed) stab at entrepreneurship. With 2013 around the corner, it was "fitting" to make this one of my new year resolution's that, in retrospect, got me through the long & dreary winter of Chicago (without my mom's cooking don't you forget).

I was inspired by the plethora of soundboard type applications devoted to famous phrases like 'Thats what she said' (made famous by Michael Scott from the NBC TV series The Office). I wanted to take the concept of a widely-recognized-familiar-sounding phrase which was (for my purposes) in the form of an app to the next level. I wanted to create a unique application which was both entertaining & had mass appeal but at the same time had a simple and clean user interface.

After several weeknights and weekends of market research, development, design, surveys, product testing and bothering my super helpful friends I finally launched Phrase Pop - Popular Phrase from around the world! last month on the app store. Phrase Pop includes accents from Jamaica, India, Scotland, Australia & more. All the voices in the application have been recorded by me in person and are voices of my friends I know who live(d) in Chicago (except for 1).

Yes, its Free - download here!
