Ryan Davis: What Culture Means to Me

In this series, PeopleFoundry employees share what our culture means to them. Ryan Davis, one of our Senior Recruitment Consultants, tells his story.

I started working at PeopleFoundry two and a half years ago. When one of the recruitment consultants reached out to me, I wasn’t looking for a new job, but I figured I might as well go check out their space and meet a few people. I came into the interview with zero expectations, and I left with a job offer from a company that I seriously wanted to be a part of. So after a subsequent interview I accepted the offer, gave notice (and was walked out that day) then started with PF that following day.

I was employee number eight. At such a young company, every employee has the opportunity to make a substantial impact on the company and its culture. Culture has always been a main focus here. To me, the PeopleFoundry culture means that I can be myself in the office. I am an extremely competitive person, and I bring my competitive nature into the office with me. And now, from our company fantasy football league and march madness brackets to peak of the week and our crazy game of placement poker, you can see how this friendly competitive spirit has become integrated into our culture.

Our culture also means flexibility. I live in Palatine, IL, a town about 30 miles northwest of the loop. My work commute takes roughly an hour each way. PeopleFoundry, being a startup, is already more flexible and laid back than most companies to begin with. As I’ve grown into my role, I’ve personally gained more flexibility, which is an amazing benefit, since I have a longer commute than most. I have proven that I can deliver consistently and have earned the trust and respect from my boss, clients and peers. I can come into the office early and leave early to make it home in time to maintain a happy work life balance. It is very fitting that one of our company values is ‘Trust and Respect are Earned’. Not only do I feel we receive recognition for constantly working toward proving and building upon our role and responsibilities, but I also see it play out in the day to day at PeopleFoundry.

PeopleFoundry is built around people and keeping the human element in business, and it is clearly reflected in the office culture PeopleFoundry provides. Focusing on maintaining a positive company culture as you grow does not mean you need to avoid diversity in personality and points of view. The key to our successful culture derives from people supporting each other, encouraging one another and growing together to better grow the PeopleFoundry impact as a whole.
