StartupBus is back! (but where is Chicago?)

Hey Chicago,

I wanted to let you know that the Regional Unlock Competition for regions to be represented in next year's StartupBus competition to SxSW has opened. Currently, Chicago's campaign is sitting in 11th place, well behind Detroit, Tampa Bay and Cincinnati (I know, right!). While launching my company earlier this year at TechWeek I saw evidence of a thriving tech community packed with talent and backed by business and government. This blog post is my way of asking the Chicago community to stand up and be counted!

Communities, regions and universities are encouraged to apply and can drive their campaigns through the competition pagestartupbus.com/unlock. Individual entry will open early 2012 and candidates are encouraged to sign up for announcements through the startupbus.com website.

About The StartupBus:

An annual event, the StartupBus is a 3 day hackathon (entrepreneurial competition) which challenges competitors to create viable a company with a group of strangers while travelling 60mph on a bus. It engages some of the most creative hackers, designers and do’ers out there, with competitors (“buspreneurs”) spending 72 hours on the road developing products, refining pitches and fighting off motion sickness as they barrel towards SXSW interactive in Austin, Texas. There, teams will have the opportunity to demo and pitch their products to some of the biggest names in the business. While it’s definitely not for everybody, past participants have described the competition as a life changing experience not to be missed.
