Top 4 strategy tips from Mobile Evangelist of the Year Jack Philbin

Mobile marketing solutions company Vibes is making the mobile industry better for everyone. And they’ve been at it since 1998, building up their title as an industry leader today.

At the helm of Vibes, with over 15 years of avid mobile promotion, is co-founder and CEO Jack Philbin. Philbin was recognized as Mobile Evangelist of the Year by Mobile Marketer this month and it’s no wonder why: Philbin is the definition of an evangelist for mobile. Besides serving as Chairman of Mobile Marketing Association North America, he has always been known to take disruptive stabs at the status quo of mobile with solutions such as Wallet Manager.

The award, Philbin said, is a “reflection of the good work that we are doing at Vibes” though, not just of the work he is doing. He said the 100-person Vibes team is always “out there protecting the industry and enhancing the benefits that clients can receive from mobile companies” in addition to working on innovative projects, such as the iBeacon integration with their Wallet Manager.

Providing industry-leading mobile solutions is what Vibes has been doing best for well over a decade now, and Philbin said it is all about taking a few extra steps to stay ahead of the curve and identify trends before they even happen. Here are some words of wisdom for companies wanting to break into the mobile space successfully from the expert himself:

- “First of all, it’s all about revenue and customers. My advice to entrepreneurs is to focus on growing your business because that tends to speak for itself. If you’re not growing your business, but you’re doing a great job networking eventually it’s not going to matter. Focus on the business.”

- “You have to be constantly talking to your colleagues in the industry. Talking to customers is paramount. What are they seeing? What do they want?”

- “And then you’ve got to have an allocation to R&D. You can’t just be servicing the existing. At Vibes, everybody’s responsible for innovation. Not just one person like Chief Innovation Officer Alex Campbell, my co-founder. We try to get that in everybody’s thinking where you constantly have to innovate. You have to continue to innovate or you’ll get beat.”

- “Finally, if you’re in Chicago and you want to get involved in mobile, tap anybody at Vibes. That’s really simple and smart and we’re right here in your backyard.”

Spoken like a true mobile evangelist, Philbin said, “Anything that has to do with mobile, I want to help out.”
