Wireless earbuds just raised $1.8M on Indiegogo

For many of us, we live with plastic and rubber earbuds in our ears blasting either Katy Perry or the latest This American Life. It is no secret that we are plugged in for most of the day. Yet life has become more constrained with all of this limitless content. We are limited to what we can do by the vital wires that connect our earbuds to our phones.

Chris Houle from Phazon wanted to change that. He set out to build earbuds that required no wires, and surprisingly he accomplished just that. You can now listen to music and be 98 feet (30 meters) away from your phone while still enjoying your Katy Perry. It shouldn’t be surprising that he was able to raise over $1.8 million on Indiegogo.

Yet the success that Chris is seeing with Phazon stands in sharp contrast to his first startup. A few years back Chris built a ‘game app’ that received fewer than 50 downloads off of the App Store. It’s incredible that someone could go from such crushing failure to building one of the most successful Indiegogo campaigns ever. In my interview with Chris he explains what that transition was like and his secret to a successful crowdfunding campaign.
