Announced by City of Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Cook County Board of Commissioners President Toni Preckwinkle in September 2012, Skills for Chicagoland’s Future is the first “regional adaptation” of the successful national organization Skills for America’s Future, which works to foster partnerships between businesses and community colleges to ensure workers are trained with employer-needed skills.

Skills for Chicagoland’s Future identifies the immediate hiring needs of employers and connects them with qualified, unemployed job seekers and/or the resources necessary to fund training programs to equip job seekers with the skills to fill those positions. In doing so, Skills for Chicagoland’s Future significantly decreases the time it takes for companies to fill open positions and increases the likelihood of job seekers obtaining employment.
