Satellites have been communicating with the Earth ever since the launch of Sputnik in 1957. Telecommunications capabilities have been the bedrock of the satellite industry with broadband services representing a ~$2.4b market in 2018.  Many private space companies such as SpaceX, OneWeb, and O3b are currently developing, launching, and operating constellations of satellites providing internet to consumer and industrial users. With many of these companies announcing plans to scale up their constellations in the coming years, join us for an enlightening presentation about the past, present, and future of satellite-based internet.

Daniel Mater is currently a Manager at EY-Parthenon, a strategy consulting firm. Prior to EY-Parthenon he worked in Financial Planning and Analysis at Planet Labs in San Francisco where he focused on long-term financial planning, forecasting, and business case development. Planet Labs is a leading New Space startup that images the entire Earth every day from its fleet of over 100 cubesats. Daniel is also a graduate of the Space Studies Program at the International Space University where he focused on Space Business and Management.
