Glen Tullman, former CEO of Allscripts Healthcare Solutions, has just launched Livongo Health, a startup designed to “empower consumers with chronic health conditions to live better.” Livongo has secured $10 million in Series A funding from General Catalyst Partners.
[ibimage==40331==Medium==none==self==ibimage_align-right]"We're reinventing the way people with chronic conditions, beginning with diabetes, will experience and manage their disease," Tullman said as he launched Livongo at TechCrunch Disrupt. The company is based in Palo Alto, but has operations in Chicago, combining various forces to innovate in healthcare.
“In Silicon Valley we’ve solved all of these problems, but what people don’t understand is how backward we are in the experience of how we understand healthcare,” Tullman said to TechCrunch. “We’re developing a tool that allows, by monitoring your blood, to signal to you and others when you have dangerously low blood sugar.”
Tullman's own son suffers from diabetes, and Livongo's initial efforts will focus on new ways to test and monitor insulin levels. Livongo offers an interactive glucometer, real-time monitoring, cloud-based analytics, and more, all cleared with the FDA.
"Almost everyone I know has a parent or loved-one dealing with diabetes and its severe complications,” Tullman said in a statement. “People with diabetes don't want to do more - they want better information and tools so they can manage their own conditions, share with their care team, whether family, friends or physicians, and know that support is only a touch away if they need it. Our mission is to help consumers minimize engagement with the disease and maximize healthy living on the go."
Tullman, a native of Highland Park, Illinois, led Allscripts for 15 years before he stepped down in 2012 to focus on other pursuits.
