Blockchain has been talked about a lot in the startup community. However, it’s not really understood well. What’s the impact of blockchain going to be? It’s really hard to tell.
If you don’t know about blockchains, you should. Here is how my friend William Mougayar describes them.
Blockchains are new technology layers that rewire the Internet and threaten to side-step older legacy constructs and centrally served businesses. At its core, a blockchain injects trust into the network, cutting off some intermediaries from serving that function and creatively disrupting how they operate. Metaphorically, blockchains are the ultimate non-stop computers. Once launched, they never go down, and offer an incredible amount of resiliency, making them dependable and attractive for running a new generation of decentralized services and software applications.
William is coming to Chicago to put a presentation on for the Chicago Federal Reserve. He wrote a book, The Business Blockchain, which I highly recommend. William and I decided to do a presentation for the broader community on Sept 26 at 4PM. We are doing it at 1871, and we will have some beer there too.
