Hipmunk raises $4.2M round from Ignition Partners, Expedia ex-CEOs
Hipmunk, the flight-search startup out of San Francisco, has raised a $4.2 million round from investors including Ignition Partners, Rich Barton and Erik Blachford (both former Expedia CEOs), Jim Hornthal (founder of Preview Travel), Simon Breakwell, and Rob Glaser. width=200/It was a fairly straightforward process, said Hipmunk Co-Founder Adam Goldstein. Ignition...approached us and offered to discuss a Series A, even though we hadn't had any plans to raise money. Hipmunk, the star Silicon Valley startup you might remember from midVenturesLAUNCH, offers a new type of visual flight search. Recently, Hipmunk closed a deal with ITA Software to power their search results. As for what Hipmunk plans to do with the round, Goldstein told midVentures In the short term, we plan to hire more—mostly engineers. He coyly added, That's all I'm going to say for now.
