House Menu - Chicago Lean Startup Challenge 2012

Our lean start-up (current iteration) is House Menu

Our Mission: Make it easier for busy people to cook new recipes at home. By almost every measure—freshness, nutrition, family bonding, price, meal size—home-cooked meals are better than most of the alternatives.

Problem:  Busy working professionals are often limited by a) time and b) culinary imagination. Their ability to make new recipes is hindered by their shopping habits--most busy people simply shop to restock for their old, routine meals.

Offering: Our company makes it easier to join ingredients to new recipes by introducing a recipe-based way of food shopping.

How? Here's a look at our (current) business model:

Our Team:

Katie Lauffenburger will provide a lot of the front-end development. She works as a graphic designer and animator, with a passion for developing websites for herself and clients. She has more than 5 years’ experience in a setting dedicated to corporate design and animation. She is finishing up Code Academy’s UX Design and Advanced HTML/CSS this week.

Phil Thompson has over the past 5 years been consultant, guide, and support to companies from Sweden starting up in the U.S. market. In this role, he has developed a network of experts, industry knowledge, and a better understanding of the common challenges and over-optimism that accompany new businesses.

What we learned from the Lean Start-up Challenge: Be humble. You don't know what your customers want or are willing to pay for until you ask them.
