MarkITx Launches First-Ever Transparent Marketplace Exchange for Secondary IT Equipment

CHICAGO—FEBRUARY 6, 2013—MarkITx, the premier online marketplace for buyers, sellers, and wholesalers of secondary IT equipment, today announced the official launch of its online technology platform at MarkITx.com.

The MarkITx platform, patterned after the long-trusted Kelley Blue Book model for the automotive market, brings neutrality and transparency to a $312 billion IT industry not known for either. MarkITx’s proprietary algorithms offer predictive pricing around the value of depreciating IT—from iPads to Cisco Core Networking to Oracle Servers, and everything in between—providing buyers, sellers, and information-seekers with a real-time transparent view of the secondary market.

“The emergence of software-defined networking proves that hardware is a commodity, so why shouldn’t it be traded as such,” said Frank Muscarello, serial entrepreneur and Founder/CEO of MarkITx. “Unlike the rest of the secondary IT marketplace, MarkITx doesn’t take a position on our inventory, so we can offer unbiased data to buyers and sellers and maximize the ROI on every transaction.”

Sellers are able to utilize the value-over-time information, provided by MarkITx, in order to maximize the return on their capital investments of depreciating IT, thus increasing technology refresh cycles.  Buyers in this two-sided market can make bids on listed products and/or highlight products they are looking to purchase which are not currently listed under a specified time to fill the demand

Any product sold through MarkITx comes with the added value of an inspection and warranty. After a sale, the equipment is shipped to a MarkITx OEM-certified partner where everything is inspected and refurbished before being sent to the buyer. When delivery is accepted, money is released from escrow.  MarkITx acts as the clearing firm.

“By using MarkITx’s platform, we dodged a huge loss. MarkITx provided my team with unprecedented value and clarity sending us real-time intelligence in a very fragmented market, increasing our return fourfold from $400,000 to $1.6 million,” said a Senior Vice President, of a global telecommunication company.

MarkITx first launched in Beta in May 2012. During that test period, the company honed its understanding of the “re-commerce” process. Today’s newly revamped platform offers a streamlined point-of-entry for non-registered users wanting to search price and inventory data for specific products, and a cleaner process for registered users to monitor their inventory, sales, and purchases. Each product’s detail page now visually indicates the high and low price for the market, helping to bring the buyer and seller closer together.

In addition to its online platform, MarkITx is launching a free supporting iPhone app that allows users to upload a photo of an IT product’s asset tag or serial number. The app geolocates the product and offers the user real-time pricing information. The user can then choose to buy, sell or upload inventory via the app. App users also have full access to the online platform’s current product listings.
