Job Description

In this early-career “enterprise in-house SEO” role, the Associate SEO Analyst contributes to the organic search engine optimization of Cars.com consumer properties. Working under the mentorship of a Senior SEO Analyst or SEO Manager, this role facilitates product delivery through on-page technical optimization tasks on established, customer-facing desktop and mobile web content. The Associate SEO Analyst assists in the sharing and discussion of periodic analytics reports and participates in discussions with Product Analysts and Product Managers on the insights gained from SEO analytics. The Associate Analyst should have a broad understanding of SEO principles, and a deeper level of understanding on technical (on-page) SEO.

Responsibilities include:
  • Continually develop organic SEO expertise training, hands-on experience, conference and networking opportunities, and study of industry trends
  • Advocate for on-page SEO best practices throughout the delivery cycle
  • Assist in the development and QA of HTML and JavaScript code
  • Documentation of HTML inefficiencies and recommended updates
  • Collaborate with interaction designers and user experience researchers to ensure the Cars.com user experience meets searchers’ needs
  • Assist in drafting organic optimization plans to align web content to compatible search engine user intent
  • Serve as subject matter expert re: on-site technical SEO for the SEO team and other internal stakeholders
  • Contribute to the documentation of SEO requirements
  • Assist in defining requirements for search engine discoverability, crawlability and targeting
  • Assist in performing research and analysis in search engine user intent as needed

Required Skills

  • Strong electronic and oral communication skills and the ability to work with cross-functional teams
  • Experience with Excel
  • Experience documenting or participating in technical requirements
  • Familiar with organic search engine optimization and related fields such as social media, content marketing and user experience
  • Familiarity with current website development technologies a plus
  • Familiarity with one or more SEO tools such as Google Search Console, Brightedge, Searchmetrics, Conductor, SEMRush, Screaming Frog, or DeepCrawl
  • Familiarity with website analytics (especially SEO analytics techniques and challenges) and tools such as Adobe Analytics (formerly Omniture), Google Analytics
Required Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Information Design, Marketing, Statistics or a related field helpful but not required
  • 1-2 years of experience in SEO or a related field such as search engine marketing, user experience, information architect, web product manager or similar role required
  • Direct experience with e-Commerce, online classifieds, online data-reporting or large scale web application development initiatives a plus
