What You'll Do:

As a Data Visualization Designer in Uptake’s User Experience group, you will help define how Uptake uses data to tell stories, motivate action, and drive value. You will explore a wide variety of data sources, mining them for insights, and devising innovative ways to bring them to life through beautiful visualizations and thoughtful interactions. Your work will directly influence our product direction and ensure that we are always pushing the envelope on what’s possible in creative and insightful data visualization.

Responsibilities:

• 
  

  Learn about Uptake partner industries in order to better understand their data and their day-to-day challenges that may be solved through data

• 
  

  Explore different data sources, from high-level financial data to super high-frequency telematics data

• 
  

  Work with data analysts and data scientists to uncover trends and insights in data

• 
  

  Consult with cross-functional teams and clients to gather requirements for data visualization and reporting needs

• 
  

  Collaborate with UX and interaction designers to incorporate state-of-the-art data visualizations all of Uptake’s offerings

• 
  

  Communicate insights to Uptake stakeholders through both traditional and innovative presentation media, including infographics, interactive tools, prototypes, etc.

  Stay on top of new techniques and tools for data analysis and visualization, and be prepared to train new hires as the team grows

• 
  

  Lead and mentor interaction and visual designer in data visualization

• 
  

  Evolve, enforce, and evangelize data visualization best practices

• 
  

  Update and maintain data visualization interaction and style guide

• 
  

  Help develop and maintain a data visualization toolkit and library

Qualifications:

• Advanced degree in Graphic Design, Data Visualization, Data Science, or related field

• 5+ years proven experience designing advanced interactive data visualizations (as demonstrated by an online portfolio)

• A history of thought leadership and innovation in data visualization as demonstrated by past high-profile projects and/or publications

• Fluency in advanced design and prototyping software and tools (Sketch, Adobe CC, Axure, etc)

• Fluency in UX best practices for both mobile and desktop

• Experience with both industry-standard and custom visualization tools/platforms and a desire to improve your skills in them (e.g. R, Domo, D3, High Charts).

• Experience with web page design, HTML, CSS, JavaScript

• Experience creating data visualizations to support scientific, engineering, or other deeply technical activities. Strong expertise in principles and practices of scientific data visualization.

• Experience working directly with external clients/customers

• Experience in heavy equipment, automotive, aviation, manufacturing, or similar industries
