What You'll Do:

As a Data Visualization Engineer, you will help define how Uptake uses data to tell stories, motivate action, and drive value. You’ll work collaboratively with other front end engineers and product designers to breathe life into our platform’s user interfaces. Your work will directly influence our product direction and ensure that we are always pushing the envelope on what’s possible in creative and insightful data visualization.

Responsibilities:

  • Solve complex business problems using cutting-edge tools and frameworks
  • Collaborate with our User Experience team to create and implement product design
  • Build efficient and reusable components that can be used throughout our applications
  • Create unit and functional tests
  • Perform code reviews to help ensure code quality across the entire company
  • Help develop a forward-looking data visualization toolkit and component library
  • Stay on top of new techniques and tools for data analysis and visualization, and be prepared to train new hires as the team grows
  • Understand and help with system design which is able to deliver high performing data visualizations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, HCI, or equivalent practical experience
  • In-depth knowledge of browser technologies
  • Curiosity and an eagerness to learn in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • Deep knowledge of the foundations of JavaScript
  • Experience working with Karma, Jasmine, Mocha or Protractor frameworks
  • Experience with data visualization libraries, specifically D3.js
  • Experience with mapping libraries, specifically Leaflet
  • Experience with version control (git) in a production environment
  • Mastery of HTML, SVG, Canvas, CSS and/or SASS

Preferred Skills:

These are additional skills that we value but are not required for this role

  • Experience with React, Angular, or similar
  • Experience with Redux and Immutable.js
  • Experience with developer toolchains, such as Grunt, Gulp or Webpack
  • Experience or relevant coursework in data science, machine learning and statistics
  • Experience building data visualizations for mobile applications

Location

We are located in River North just right off the Chicago Brown Line stop. We also provide you with a free shuttle service to/from Ogilvie and Union.
