Trustwave, a leader in cloud-based compliance and information security solutions, is seeking a talented, highly motivated DevOps Engineer to join Trustwave's Product Engineering Team in Chicago. Ideally, we are looking for talented, highly motivated candidates with systems administration experience with hands-on Hadoop (and related big data technologies) deployment skills.

The DevOps Engineering team is primarily responsible for deployment and ongoing maintenance of Trustwave proprietary applications as well as maintaining test network facilities. The team is part of the Engineering department, but also works with operationally-focused teams, and is involved through all stages of application development and deployment, including ongoing production use. This is a specialized role that will be embedded within the Chicago-based big data software engineering team and will focus on big data deployments in the R&D, integration and production environments.

 

Responsibilities

  • Install, deploy and maintain the Hadoop and ElasticSearch clusters in the development, integration, staging and production environments
  • Work with the engineering teams to improve processes related to complicated deployment artifacts
  • Coordinate and support troubleshooting activities between the big data clusters and the internal Trustwave cloud platform
  • Design, coordinate and execute complex whole system / integration deployments of new product releases
  • Develop and implement automated processes to increase deployment efficiency, accuracy, and repeatability while decreasing downtime and outages.
  • Work with the software development teams throughout the development process to represent the systems and application administration perspective on system changes
  • Provide level 3 escalation support, monitoring and maintenance for proprietary applications running in Trustwave’s production SaaS environment
  • Work with IT operations team to develop/maintain operational requirements and procedure documentation
  • Perform application maintenance and administration activities for proprietary apps in Trustwave’s datacenters
  • Satisfy ad hoc requests for application-level reporting and customization
  • Configuration, deployment, and maintenance of both internally developed software and Open Source Software such as Apache httpd, Tomcat, OpenSSH, MongoDB.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Strong Hadoop administration skills (preferably on Hortonwork’s Data Platform) 
  • Strong ElasticSearch administration skills*can train candidate
  • Hands on experience with installing, tuning and maintaining hadoop and ElasticSearch clusters
  • Experience with other big data related deployments (ZooKeeper, Oozie, HBase, Storm, Kafka)
  • Strong Linux System Administration skills required, including best practices regarding installation, configuration, maintenance and monitoring
  • Conceptual familiarity with TCP/IP networking; comfort level with basic addressing, routing, firewalls and standard protocols
  • Conceptual knowledge of relational database systems; MySQL experience preferred
  • Experience with one or more programming or scripting languages such as Java, perl, python, ruby, bash
  • Experience using configuration management systems is desired (such as Ansible, Salt, Puppet, Chef)
  • Experience working with and engineering complex, highly available and scalable SaaS environments is desired

  • BS in Computer Science or Engineering is preferred
  • Familiarity with the security industry is desirable but not required
  • Willingness to occasionally work scheduled night/weekend times
  • Occasional overnight travel to other Trustwave offices in the U.S. may be required

Education:

We prefer college-educated applicants, but at minimum, high school diploma or equivalent is required for employment.
