Job Description

At Cars.com, not only are we confident in our ability to drive value to our customers, we’re energized by it!  The Director, Customer Analytics position is an exciting opportunity to make a substantial impact on our organization as our business success depends on our ability to demonstrate unique and repeatable value to our dealer customers and OEM advertisers. This includes clear and consistent performance of advertising, a vivid demonstration of Cars.com’s contribution to offline sales, multi-touch attribution and, in the future, our ability to monetize our own data to provide improved value to advertisers in, and around, the automotive space. The Director, Customer Analytics is an analytics-driven leader who is passionate about using data to guide strategy and who can skillfully provide actionable insights and analysis to a variety of audiences. While this position requires a senior strategist with deep experience in both ad-supported and transactional digital media to manage both direct and cross-function resources, the right person will also not be afraid to roll up their sleeves and dive head-first into the data weeds. This leader will engage with other senior executives and company officers, including the content, social media, marketing, sales, product, engineering, events, strategy and business development teams.

The ideal candidate will have a unique ability to combine audience, performance and financial data with marketplace intelligence to quickly develop and present a unique, clear, and compelling narrative that drives exceptional business results and strategies for the organization’s greatest needs. Our ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, high-velocity environment of creativity and innovation, and is highly competitive at their core.

The Director, Customer Analytics will lead three dynamic teams responsible for developing user-friendly demonstrations of the value that our ad products deliver to our advertisers. This person will work with sales and partner marketing to assess our current ROI reporting methods and devise an optimal system that empowers sales to both deliver an accurate picture of the value we deliver and demonstrate how increased, or alternative, spending strategies could/would enhance value. As new products launch, this person will work across the broader analytics function to measure and track impact and effectiveness and recommend product strategies that will deliver optimal ROI for advertisers. This is as much client-facing as it is internal-facing, requiring work with OEMs and dealers to create unique data partnerships to enhance advertiser ROI. This leader will have demonstrated ability to work with quantitative analysis tools, with the unique ability to translate data into human language and value.
