What We Do:

Uptake harnesses the power of underutilized data to empower businesses to make informed decisions. We partner with industry leaders to build predictive analytics software that grows smarter in one industry because of what we learn in another. The result is a powerful platform that identifies problems before they happen, ultimately saving money, time and lives.

Uptake Energy envisions a global energy system where everyone can access dynamic, resilient, and sustainable power. We’re building on Uptake’s platform and talent to solve the challenges of today’s energy marketplace and enabling the transition to the power system of tomorrow.

What You'll Do:

The Director is responsible for developing and leading a business strategy in an Energy subvertical market segment such as Wind Generation, Natural Gas Generation, or Transmission & Distribution. The primary goal of each subvertical team is to help major Energy companies unlock their data to solve their most difficult business challenges. That might mean predicting when and how a wind turbine gearbox will fail; recommending where a utility should station its crews when a dangerous storm hits; or optimizing a college campus’ energy production and efficiency strategy. This entrepreneurial role combines market research and go-to-market strategy, tactical business development and relationship management, product roadmapping, and cross-functional leadership in implementing collaborative software solutions.

Some of the things you may find yourself doing:

  • Managing detailed analyses of Energy industry segments and systems, uncovering opportunities to create business value with Uptake talent and technology
  • Leading a go-to market product strategy across a relevant energy subvertical
  • Leading a collaboration with partners and colleagues to surface problems, vision and design solutions, and communicate them to a broad range of stakeholders
  • Executing the process of identifying, qualifying, and pursuing deep strategic partnerships with iconic Energy businesses
  • Recruiting and leading a team of direct reports, as well as members of other Uptake business units, to execute on a solution vision developed with a partner
Qualifications:
  • Experience creating and leading successful business strategies and business units, with entrepreneurial or start-up experience a major plus
  • A collaborative mindset, and a strong record of building partner and client relationships, as well as internal relationships with colleagues
  • Demonstrated strong market knowledge, credibility, and relationships in the Energy sector
  • Boots-on-the-ground experience in at least one key area of the Energy sector, including Wind Generation, Natural Gas Generation, or Transmission & Distribution
  • Strong project management skills, including a proven ability to think through all aspects of a process and structure, manage long-term projects, and multi-task
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills—especially a strong ability to translate between technical and business stakeholders
  • Familiarity with concepts and technologies around Big Data Analytics, Predictive Analytics, and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT)
  • BS, with MS or MBA in a relevant field preferred
  • A sense of humor, entrepreneurial spirit, and a passion to help create the energy system of the future
