Job Description
 

Cars.com seeks a product marketing leader to create a well-oiled machine to develop positioning, messaging, and competitive differentiation, as well as enable the sales and marketing teams to ensure they are aligned and work efficiently to generate and close revenue opportunities.

 

The Director of Product Marketing will create an overarching product marketing strategy and lead a team of product marketers to generate demand for existing products as well as future innovations.

  • Lead an integrated team of B2B product marketers to create business impact
  • Develop a comprehensive commercialization process and create a cross-functional “playbook” from which the Product Marketing, Product, Sales, and Partner Marketing teams can successfully launch new products
  • Create positioning and value-based product messaging that supports Cars.com’s over-arching customer value proposition as well as differentiates products in the market
  • Create packaging strategy to support incremental value delivery for customers and incremental revenue growth for the organization
  • Develop and lead the company’s sales enablement strategy; collaborate with sales training on ongoing education and engagement across the field that results in sales growth
  • Collaborate with Product and Sales Strategy to uncover market opportunities to create value for our customers while driving revenue for our business
  • Identify opportunities for lead generation and create marketing materials – including case studies, “purple papers,” blog posts, and more – to support
  • Be an expert on Cars.com’s customers and their pain points as well as how and why they buy; share customer insights with product team to contribute to the development of innovative/industry-leading products
  • Exceed internal/external customer/stakeholder level of satisfaction with ability to execute
  • Be an expert on the competitive landscape and use that knowledge to sharpen and build differentiators in the product, messaging, and sales strategy


 
Required Skills
 
  • Proven ability to lead and manage product marketing function as well as ability to collaborate with clients and stakeholders across the organization to support business objectives
  • Ability to lead a team to create new standards and processes that raise the bar
  • Experienced writer with the ability to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary
  • Creative problem solver with ability to manage difficult situations and offer valuable solutions 
  • Understanding of the digital marketing landscape – including attribution -- and emerging competitors (Google, Facebook, etc.)
 
Required Experience
 
  • 7-10 years of B2B / product marketing experience, with strong digital media and marketing background
  • Proven ability to create value propositions and value-based messaging that resonates with customers
  • Experience in a cross-functional role
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders to meet deadlines and exceed expectations
  • Advanced project management and process development skills with ability to manage integrated marketing programs
  • Strong Marketing, messaging, and writing skills -- must be capable of making brand-first decisions related to message in real-time as needed
  • Ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple projects/events simultaneously and respond to changes in priorities
  • Meticulous attention to detail with a strong emphasis on thoroughness, accuracy and follow up
  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal communication skills
  • High level of energy and enthusiasm; desire to go beyond the status quo
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite; advanced Excel experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree;Bachelor's degree in Business Management & Marketing, Communications
