The e-learning instructional designer is responsible for supporting, designing and developing on-demand learning for the Cars.com Learning Management System (LMS).  This position will create e-learning programs, update current programs, and develop scenario-based learning programs for our sales division. 

  • Design, develop, and implement a variety of e-learning programs that incorporate multiple learning activities for scenario-based learning
  • Collaborate with Distance Learning Developer and Instructional Designers on design and development of training materials and content
  • Collaborate with designated subject matter experts (SMEs) as appropriate, to develop learning solutions to improve the target audience’s performance
  • Update LMS content regularly and help repurpose current on-site training content
  • Create pre- and post e-learning programs for all product roll-outs
  • Help transfer knowledge to other team members
  • Assist in creating outlines and determining different delivery methods (Face-to-Face, web-based, live streaming, and/or computer-based) for each class
  • Oversee quality control of learning deliverables
  • Perform other duties as assigned (e.g. writing scripts, creating presentations, and developing course handouts)
  • Determines the best manner of executing e-learning (visual, auditory, or kinesthetic) within each program
  • Assist Instructional Designers with building (scripts, decks, handouts)
  • Determine the best manner of executing e-learning (visual, auditory, live streaming or kinesthetic) within each class.
  • Develops an effective document management process for: organizing and retraining e-learning project related source files; scheduling periodic courses reviews for any updates needed; scheduling the expiration of training courses, if appropriate; tracking documentation and version control of all revisions and updates, etc.
  • Arranges for pilot group testing of all new or updated courses.
  • Performs quality assurance checks on training courses that have been developed
  • Support and maintain the global knowledge base and repository for best practice documents, key tools and templates
  • Trouble shoot eLearning development issues for counterparts (e.g. identifying and fixing variables within courses, setting up templates, inserting states, etc)
 
Required Skills
  • Web/Graphic design skills
  • Instructional design and adult learning experience preferred (such as ADDIE, Dick & Carey, Kirkpatrick, etc)
  • Skilled at managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines
  • Ability to collaborate with team members across business areas and at all levels of the organization
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proven experience of e-learning platforms (e.g. Articulate Storyline, Lectora, Captivate, etc)
  • Proven experience of video editing tools (.e.g Camtasia, Adobe Premiere, etc.)
  • Proven experience of photo editing tools (e.g. Adobe PhotoShop, Snagit, etc.)
  • Required proficiency with MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Ability to organize and manage time effectively
  • Manage multiple and concurrent projects
  • Preferably experience working within the automotive or sales industry

 
Required Experience
  • B.A. in Instructional Design, Instructional Systems Design, or related field
  • 3-5 years of experience in e-learning development
  • Willing to show work samples, including e-learning programs built using online self-study development applications (such as Storyline, Lectora, Captivate, etc.)
  • Preferred sales background
