THE OPPORTUNITY

Design and build the accounting and control systems for a rapidly growing startup. The Finance Controller will manage the financial flows between our exchange and our buyers, sellers, intermediaries, logistics partners and partners. They will also address the company’s daily accounting needs, including setting budgets, developing financial forecasts and measuring performance against both.

As Financial Controller, working across our Development, Operations, Sales and Supply Chain teams, you will identify opportunities to streamline and scale accounting processes, and create new in-house processes and technology to help us grow. Familiarity with the modern finance tools of the day (e.g. Expensify, Xero, etc.) will be helpful as we look toward integrating and automating our accounting systems. The Finance Controller will also work to develop and ensure compliance with internal controls.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Ensuring adherence to GAAP and related rules and regulations
• Managing A/P
  • Oversee expenses and T&E
  • Manage Purchase Order and bill payment processes
  • Maintain relationships with vendors, partners, and MarkITx Members
• Managing A/R
  • Manage Member Invoicing
  • Manage collections process
  • Monthly A/R health check and Bad Debt reporting
• Helping develop and establishing MarkITx internal controls
• Ensuring compliance with MarkITx internal controls
• Assisting in internal and external audit review processes
• Month-end Close
  • Assist in developing monthly close process
  • Ensure adherence to monthly close process
  • Reconcile accounts
  • Ensure monthly and quarterly financial reports are made available to senior management and investors
• Maintaining and redistributing Accounting Processes and Policies when needed
• Improving the operational efficiency of the Financial Department
  • Identify areas where technology and software can improve efficiency and allow scalability
  • Evaluate internal controls and policies to determine areas of improvement
• Assisting in the development and maintenance of budgets and financial forecasts

REQUIREMENTS:

• BA in accounting or related field (CPA preferred)
• Excellent accounting, analytical and Excel skills
• Experience
  • Developing budgets and financial forecasts
  • Designing and implementing financial controls
  • Developing and implementing process improvement measures
  • Managing subscription-based revenue experience

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

• CPA
• 2+ years of Big Four accounting experience
• Prior people management experience
• Experience with international transactions and policy development to mitigate international risk
• Saas-based company experience, particularly in a startup environment
• Experience with accounting practices within financial exchanges, trading firms or clearing firms
