What is the job?

As an IT Administrator, you will oversee and manage on-premises and cloud-based infrastructure as well provide IT support to all RedShelf employees. You will be responsible for: 

  • Participating in design meetings to plan improvements for the infrastructure that powers our business
  • Proactively monitoring security threats and maintaining standards to prevent any issues for our partners or students
  • Mentor developers on the basics of server administration and networking
  • Manage and support our office network and our employee systems
  • Research and propose new technologies that will improve RedShelf's infrastructure

What are we looking for?

First and foremost, we are looking for someone who is passionate about information technology and making an impact in the higher education market. Candidates should have at least 5 years of experience in IT administration. Previous experience in the education or publishing industry is preferred, but not required. Experience administering Mac, Linux, and Windows are required.

Written and verbal communication skills will be essential to this position, specifically regarding effective communication with stakeholders, including senior leadership. You should be comfortable developing and leading projects independently with support from your team. We are looking for an individual who is capable of balancing multiple priorities, meeting deadlines, and showcasing the flexibility to adapt to the changing needs of our business. 

 Ideally, you should have experience with most of these technologies and concepts. However, we are willing to train the right candidate if you are passionate about the position and our goals.

  • Installation, configuration, security, and on-going management of internal IT infrastructure including network, firewalls, employee workstations, printers and other office equipment
  • Provisioning, configuration and on-going management of cloud-based infrastructure including Linux servers and AWS technology
  • Ensuring appropriate level of infrastructure availability and training team members to respond to operational issues
  • Ensuring internal and external policy compliance
  • Maintaining IT inventory and assets
  • SaltStack or another configuration management technology
  • In-depth knowledge of modern UNIX-based systems (Linux, MacOS)
  • 2+ years of experience administering Linux servers in production/commercial setting
  • 2+ years of experience administering systems deployed in AWS
  • Experience with Docker or other containerization technology is a plus
  • Managing and supporting a VPN
  • Experience administering a fleet of Apple and Windows Machines
