As of Q2 2016, over 1,200 Chicago-area companies are searching for a “Java Developer.” Many of them are body shops. We are not one of them. We are a software product company. Our flagship product “Amp” is a new category of software at the intersection of big data and analytics.
Aginity “Amp” is an analytic environment that consolidates analytic activity under a powerful analytic management platform. We are actively upgrading our software to a SOA architecture with Java at its core. If that is insufficient to entice you, consider this: we are active supporters of data analytics in Hadoop and MPP environments.
As you know, “software product development” is what most developers want to do with their skills. At Aginity you are integral to our success, not an afterthought “warm body” to be schlepped around the city every few months.
This job is perfectly suited to a skilled Java developer who does not want his or her genius to be spent on doing performance views of other developers. You are an excellent coder because you’ve made it your business to know everything there is to know about Java; The good. The bad. The ugly. The despicable but necessary workaround. The elegant piece of code created by you.
As a java developer your responsibilities include:
- Write code… good, solid, testable, code
- Deliver functionality within our sprint cycles against our core product Amp
- Collaborate with team leads and product management to design, write and test your code
- Participate in stand ups, code reviews, be be a member a small team of Amp product developers
- Continue growing our capacity as a product organization by extending our platform, continuous integration, test tools, and everything else
Desired Skills and Experience
Required
- BS in Computer Science or related technical discipline or equivalent practical experience
- 2+ years writing java
- Demonstrate the ability to learn new technologies and apply them in practical ways
Preferred:
- Experience building a web service API and infrastructure using open source technologies
- Practical use of an ORM technology in java (Spring/Hibernate)
- Working knowledge of SQL and Hadoop technologies
- Product team experience
