The Lead Systems Engineer leads a team of engineers to apply engineering best practices and principles to deliver high quality, maintainable, reusable, reliable, performant, and scalable infrastructure and code on schedule. The Lead Systems Engineer serves as a technical liaison between his or her team and other internal and external development teams to identify and resolve dependencies, to identify, improve, and apply systems engineering best practices and processes, and to identify and mitigate risks to the on-time delivery of infrastructure and software. The Lead Systems Engineer works under minimal supervision of software engineering managers.

Responsibilities
  • Work with management to set and communicate team goals and vision aligned to business requirements; ensure the team stays focused and delivers against the goals, adapting to changing business requirements
  • Lead others to design and implement strategies to lead others to improve and automate the provisioning, setup, testing and operability of our cloud-based infrastructure
  • Lead others to specify non-functional infrastructure, software and operations requirements and analyze all requirements to determine design feasibility within time and cost constraints
  • Lead the team to estimate development timelines and be accountable to the timelines by actively managing risks and changing requirements
  • Provide input and design cloud-based system architecture to improve by working with architects as required
  • Lead others to follow and improve agile software development processes and practices (SCRUM) to improve engineering efficiency to maximize resources and reduce expense
  • Lead others to ensure the adoption and application of development tools (IDEs, test frameworks, static analyzers, etc.) to improve engineering efficiency to maximize resources and reduce expense
  • Produce project readiness artifacts and estimates for upcoming features in the roadmap
  • Lead others to identify and reduce technical debt
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Systems Administration, Information Systems, or Computer Science or professional experience equivalent
  • 8+ years supporting and maintaining environments that host commercial-grade systems and applications
  • Strong knowledge of Windows Systems Administration / SQL Server
  • Strong problem solving skills, independent thinking
  • Strong teamwork and partnering skills for cross-group collaboration
  • Ability to contribute to a motivating environment that instills accountability
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills for technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience troubleshooting hardware and software


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent time management 
  • Experience developing in configuration management and cloud-based platforms
  • Knowledge and experience in working with Agile development methodology
  • Excellent leadership capabilities
  • Excellent problem solving
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork to facilitate collaborative problem solving amongst team members
  • Excellent verbal and written communication to clearly, succinctly, and completely communicate intent (both technical and non-technical) in interactions with team members and management
