Marketing Copywriter
Based out of Groupon's Chicago headquarters, the Marketing Copywriter is responsible for much of the company's high-visibility copy, from holiday campaigns and event signage to website assets and video scripts. The Marketing Copywriter reports to the Creative Director of copy and collaborates closely with the marketing team across channel and the Groupon Design Union to communicate Groupon's vision in a manner that’s clear, concise, compelling, and occasionally gets a laugh from our millions of subscribers.

Will regularly partner with designers and cross-functional teams to work on larger marketing campaigns from concept to final creative

Copywriter Responsibilities:
Strong copywriting skills and conceptual abilities with the ability to concept ideas and bring them to life in the creative process to generate strong brand and business results
Contribute copy and concepts as part of a high-performance team of marketing writers
Write for a wide variety of e-commerce projects including themed holiday campaigns, merchandise promotions, banner ads, scripts, social ads, subject lines, and more
Understand the business strategy and objectives of each project as defined by the brief and effectively translate them into messaging that engages the reader and compels them to act
Leverage data and intelligence to inform strategy and tactics and overall product
Gather, analyze and incorporate brand and industry research/best practices to ensure creative strategy and programs resonate with and motivate our audiences
Identifies and applies new, creative ways to reach and engage audiences
Measures and reports on success of creative in collaboration with optimization leads
Explore copy through wordplay such as portmanteaus and other ways to have fun with language
Collaborate effectively with designers; think creatively about the interplay of copy and art
Participate in brainstorms and proactively offer up ideas
Thrive in an environment that routinely presents new challenges and opportunities
Be available to consult on questions of language throughout the day
Job Requirements/Specifications:
An in-depth understanding of the Groupon brand, including house-style rules, taboos, and marketing clichés Groupon works to avoid, 110% of the time
The ability to identify and deliver the appropriate tone for each assignment, from conversational to informative to playful to sober
Skilled at writing intuitive, efficient copy that fits into very tight spaces; able to leap 30-character headlines in a single bound
Capable of articulating ideas/presenting work to executives and peers to create empathy and enthusiasm for it
Outstanding attitude and ability to respond appropriately to constructive feedback
Possess strong attention to detail
Self-prioritize workload with tact and efficiency to meet deliverables
Bachelor's Degree; May have at least 3+ years copy experience for e-commerce websites and digital advertising
Other Functions:
Keep up with digital, mobile, and social trends and innovations
Knowledge of working in Google Drive and Google docs a plus
Writing copy for travel and/or health & beauty categories ideal
