The Network Engineer reports to the Director of Systems Operations and is responsible for computer hardware, software and networking implementations for our client-facing Datacenter Operation sites. This role will also encompass daily work to develop, test, install, configure and troubleshoot computer hardware, software and networking systems. As part of this process, the engineer will create proper documentation, diagrams and other detailed instructions internally, as well as for clients.

Core responsibilities:

  • Provide 24x7x365 support for client-facing datacenter operations.
  • Configure, support, and maintain routers, switches, network appliances, firewalls, and other communication devices
  • Prepare technical documentation necessary to communicate ideas, concepts, and details necessary to accomplish specific goals
  • Responsible for system performance; support/troubleshoot network and server issues
  • Responsible for monitoring and control of the status and performance of on-line network systems
  • Analyze network activity and network problems to discover and prevent systematic errors
  • Install, configure and/or support technical components, operating systems, network equipment and software, middleware components and network applications

  • Recommend network design changes/enhancements for improved systems availability and performance
  • Configure, test, and maintain LAN/WAN equipment and services, including switches, routers, firewalls and VPN
  • Manage IT Engineering projects to ensure delivery of core metrics in terms of quality, delivery, cost and service
  • Collaborate with the Director of Systems Operations to determine the forecasted work hours, travel and hardware required for a customer proposal
  • Maintain routines to ensure delivery of core engineering metrics in terms of project execution
  • Will be required to participate in on-call service rotation with other department employees

Required Skills

  • Cisco Certified CCNA preferred
  • Extensive knowledge and work experience with networking protocols (e.g., IP, SMTP, HTTP, VRF, OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, etc) and network topologies
  • Experience with productivity, process and quality improvement
  • Expert level proficiencies in network and security infrastructure (e.g., Routers, Switches, Firewalls, NAC and IDS systems.)
  • Experience in Cisco product line including Nexus/Catalyst Switches, Routers, and ASAs with Firepower.
  • Experience with VMWare Vsphere 5.x
  • Experience with Lancope Stealthwatch is a plus
  • Experience with Virtualization is a plus
  • Effective organization, planning, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Service oriented collaborative approach to customer and peer relationships
  • Some travel required (10% - 15% on average)
  • Reliable means of transportation
