Job Description: Vail Systems, Inc. (Deerfield, IL) seeks Network Engineer III (multiple positions) responsible for architecting, implementing, maintaining, monitoring, and securing IP networks with the strong high-availability requirements of a carrier-grade VoIP telephony hosting environment. Specific duties will include: setting direction for network architecture; designing networks and customer network integrations; implementing solutions, e.g. router/switch/firewall configuration; trouble-shooting issues, including at the protocol level (for instance by analyzing packet traces) and in customer facing situations; continuously improving network monitoring and security; participating on project teams in delivering solutions; process and workflow development; capacity planning; writing proposals or papers on network designs, trouble-shooting techniques, redundancy and failure mode assessments; making presentations on network architecture and connectivity options with regard to high-availability and failure modes to client audiences; being on-call for issues handling and response, including after hours; being available for off-hours deployments; and creating and maintaining network documentation. Position will utilize the following software, tools, and protocols among others: Cisco IOS, Juniper JunOS, OSPF, BFD, BGP, VRFs, MPLS, Wireshark, Visio, firewalls, NAT, link aggregation, ACLs, VRRP, HSRP, GRE, IPv6, Linux/Windows/VMware operating systems, Jira, Observium, spanning tree, SNMP, Syslog, TACACS+, PKI, IPsec VPN, DNS, DHCP. Limited travel within the U.S. may be required to data-centers and for client visits. Position is based out of Deerfield, IL office but may require occasional work from the Chicago, IL office.
The position requires a Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, or a closely related field, plus 5 years of experience in the job offered, Senior Test Engineer, Senior System Test/Lab Support Engineer, Quality Assurance Engineer, or similar network engineering position. In the alternative, employer will accept a Master's degree or foreign equivalent degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, or a closely related field, plus 3 years of experience in the job offered, Senior Test Engineer, Senior System Test/Lab Support Engineer, Quality Assurance Engineer, or similar network engineering position. Experience must include: IP networking experience in the Telecom (cellular/wireless) industry; Juniper routers and SRX series management; firewall policy management and deployment; redundant multi-site interconnectivity design and implementation; multicast PIM-DM, PIM-SM, and SSM; virtual private networks and network overlays; redundant IPsec tunnel configurations; network equipment testing and evaluation; VMware experience; network protocol analysis with wireshark; TACACS+ configuration; high availability local and geographic redundancy experience; management domain separation and out-of-band management; call signaling and processing; experience in multi-tenant service provider environment with overlapping IP space separation (dual NAT / IPsec, GRE, IPinIP, L2TPv3 tunneling and overlay / virtual routers and firewalls / VLANs); redundancy and performance testing and evaluation of networks for production release in telecom environments; test strategy development for failure mode and performance testing. Must be willing to occasionally travel within the U.S. to datacenters and for client visits. Position is based out of Deerfield, IL office but may require occasional work from the Chicago, IL office.
