Part-Time IT Associate Software Engineering | Chicago, IL, United States

We are Narrative Science, the leader in automated narrative generation for the enterprise. Our Quill platform analyzes data from disparate sources, understands what is important to the end user and then automatically generates perfectly written narratives, customized to the intended audience, at scale.

Our goal is to quickly get people to that “aha” moment, without the need for vague interpretation or conjecture. Quill was engineered by a team of creative, intelligent, and passionate individuals- and we’re looking for another person to join our ranks.

Narrative Science is seeking an individual to work alongside the DevOps engineers and IT team on a part-time basis (20 hours per week, during office hours) to provide internal technical support in our corporate offices.  This person will act as a first point of contact for supporting local workstations, cloud based support services, and our local data center in order to ensure a high degree of visibility and connectivity between these environments.

Responsibilities
  • Provide hands-on technical support—identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues for local hardware, software, and networking equipment
  • Monitor and prioritize internal support requests received in person and by ticketing system
  • Escalate issues to the the IT team when required
  • Assist in the provisioning of new and replacement equipment
  • Assist management staff with preparation of IT documentation regarding system configurations and technical processes
  • Maintain hardware and software inventory
  • Have a diplomatic and professional attitude-- be sensitive to the IT needs of colleagues while regarding other priorities in the job
  • Keep up to date on latest trends in technology and equipment / solutions
Qualifications
  • Hands-on proficiency with Mac OS X, Apple applications and hardware
  • Familiar with Linux environment -- administering users, security services, and related applications.
  • Experienced with networking equipment -- firewalls, switches, access points, and routers a plus.
  • Familiar with Windows environment a plus
  • Familiar with AWS and cloud computing a plus
  • Familiarity with scripting in bash and/ or python a plus
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred

Location

We became a distributed workforce in March 2020 as a result of Covid-19 and will remain distributed moving forward. Our Chicago HQ still remains but we want our team to have flexibility around when and where they work.
