Database
Administration Division


 


Number of Positions:
1


 


Under direction,
functions as a technical team leader for the design, implementation, and
management of database systems and new database technologies, and performs
related duties as required.


 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES



  • Installs, configures Postgres databases and applies
    security patches and upgrade existing installations

  • Supports PostgreSQL database in both locally hosted
    servers and on AWS, including exposure to setting up AWS RDS instances

  • Works with teammates to migrate Oracle databases to
    the Postgres platform

  • Designs and creates database schema

  • Designs and ensures backup and recovery techniques
    to prevent data loss

  • Designs and implements High Availability
    architecture that includes replication for Disaster Recovery

  • Creates security architectures to prevent
    unauthorized access

  • Resolves any performance or scaling issues

Qualifications


 



  • Graduation from an accredited college or university
    with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information
    Technology/Systems, or a directly related field, plus two years of
    experience in maintaining and designing integrated database systems,
    or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

SELECTION
REQUIREMENTS


This position
requires applicants to successfully complete an interview. The interviewed
candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the
responsibilities of the position will be selected.


 


Preference will be
given to candidates possessing the following:



  • Previous experience working with Postgres on a
    Linux/UNIX system

  • Previous experience setting up and configuring
    Amazon Web Services (AWS) Relational Database Services (RDS)

  • Previous experience setting up and managing
    Postgres on AWS

  • Previous experience administering an Oracle
    database

  • Previous experience migrating an Oracle database to
    Postgres

  • Previous experience administering or consuming data
    from a MongoDB


 


VETERANS PREFERENCE
NOTE:
The City of Chicago
offers Veterans Preference to both current, active military personnel AND
military personnel who have served in the Armed Forces of the
United States and have received an honorable or general discharge. Eligible
candidates must have at least six months of active duty documented. In

Residency
Requirement:
All employees of the
City must be actual residents of the City as outlined in 2-152-050 of the
City of Chicago Municipal Code. Proof of residency will be required.
