About the role

At Trunk Club, we're designing the future of retail. With Design serving as one of our company’s many strategic functions, we spend our days researching and exploring ways to reinvent the online shopping experience. As this summer’s Product Design Intern, you’re passionate about learning the craft of designing smart, easy, and usable software.

What you might expect to do when you’re here at Trunk Club…

There are a lot of unknowns when you’re redesigning an industry. To that end, one day you might find yourself shadowing our stylists to research and understand how they connect and sell to Trunk Club customers. Another day you’ll pair with one of our designers to rethink the user flow of how a customer requests a trunk. You'll participate in design team critiques, polish mockups in Sketch, and wire up prototypes to share with real people for feedback. At the end of the day, you can expect to experience what it's like to ship products with real business impacts, and you’ll have a cast of super smart product managers, data scientists, engineers, and business-savvy folks to show you how. It’s a design internship like none other.

About you...

  • You're inquisitive and hungry for knowledge—curiosity suits people well at Trunk Club
  • You’re wildly creative
  • You’re passionate about learning how to solve user-centered problems
  • You’re resourceful—you can use Google to figure anything out
  • You’re starting to get comfortable with tools like Sketch, or the Adobe Creative Suite
  • You’re curious about getting into prototyping and maybe have used some tools yourself
  • You’re extremely detail oriented
  • You’re considered an amazing communicator
  • You’re building a good eye for visual design and are ready to learn more
  • You love collaborating

About the Design team you’d be joining…

We’re a fun, passionate bunch. Designers at Trunk Club embrace modern tools. We’re Sketch fanatics, love InVision, and experiment with every new prototyping app that hits the scene. We love putting together thorough research plans, sweat typographic details that only Robert Bringhurst could be proud of, and we’d be remiss not to say that yes, we’ve read Don’t Make Me Think. We’re all driven, and as a team we think about leveling up each other’s skills and careers together. And, we’re excited to welcome you, your hobbies, and your design prowess, as well.

Ready to join the Trunk Club Design team this summer?

Awesome, we’re excited to meet you. Go ahead and share your website portfolio, which we know provides phenomenal examples of your early UX and software design work, along with a cover letter outlining why you’d like to learn from the Trunk Club Design crew. Our entire team will review every portfolio that passes our way and we’ll reach out to folks who could be a great fit.

**Local candidates in Chicago are preferred (but not necessary.)**

We will not be providing housing/stipends for this summer.

Note: this is a user experience and user interface design role, not a graphic design role. Good luck!
