About the Product Designer Role

At Trunk Club, we're designing the future of retail. With Design serving as one of our company’s many strategic functions, we spend our days researching and exploring ways to reinvent the online shopping experience. As a Product Designer, you’re impeccable at the craft of designing smart, easy, and useable software. You’ve been doing this kind of work for a while, you know how to articulate the value of design to non-designers, and you’re eager to mentor your teammates in doing the same.

What you might expect to do when you’re here at Trunk Club…

There are a lot of unknowns when you’re redesigning an industry. To that end, one day you might find yourself shadowing our stylists to research and understand how they connect and sell to Trunk Club customers. Another day you’ll pair-design to explore how we might speed up our on-boarding process. A week later, you might spend time building a series of interactive prototypes to carve out a vision with our unbelievably talented engineering crew. The next day you might take those same prototypes and present them to different leadership teams to inspire them on where Trunk Club’s shopping experience can head next. Heck, you might even know other talented design teams and connect our team to them so we can learn how to solve similar problems, together. At the end of the day, you can expect to lead and ship real-world designs, and you’ll have a cast of super smart product managers, data scientists, engineers, and business-savvy folks to help get you there.

About you, and where you’ve been…

  • You’re fluent and fast in all parts of product design, from UX to shaping interfaces
  • You’re good at disseminating what to design and articulating why
  • You’re able to prototype designs in various fidelities
  • You’re a maker, doer, and closer rather than an “ideas person”
  • You’re able to rally non-designers around your ideas
  • You’re a great mentor and teacher
  • You’re an excellent lunch buddy
  • You’ve taken insights from research and turned them into interfaces
  • You’ve shipped real-world software and websites
  • You’ve navigated teams through hard, undefined design problems
  • You’ve excelled in presenting and writing about your design decisions
  • You’ve inspired executives at your current job on the value of design
  • Your former bosses and coworkers would gush about you and your skills
  • You’ve got interesting hobbies outside of design

About the Design team you’d be joining…

We’re a fun, passionate bunch. Designers at Trunk Club embrace modern tools. We’re Sketch fanatics, love InVision, and experiment with every new prototyping app that hits the scene. We love putting together thorough research plans, sweat typographic details that only Robert Bringhurst could be proud of, and we’d be remiss not to say that yes, we’ve read Don’t Make Me Think. We’re all driven, and as a team we think about leveling up each other’s skills and careers together. And, we’re excited to welcome you, your hobbies, and your design leadership prowess, as well.

Working at Trunk Club is NOT for you if…

If you’d feel lost without structure, you think taking out the trash is below you, and you’ve ever said “that’s not part of my job description,” working at Trunk Club may not be for you.

Ready to join the Trunk Club Design team?

Awesome, we’re excited to meet you. Go ahead and share your website portfolio, which we know is chock-full of phenomenal examples of your app and software design work, along with a cover letter outlining why you’d like to join the Trunk Club Design crew. Our entire team will review every portfolio that passes our way and we’ll reach out to folks who could be a great fit. Note: this is a user experience and user interface design role, not a graphic design role. Good luck!
