This is where you come in. Aeris Communications is seeking a Senior Director, GSM/LTE Services with deep expertise in a broad array of telecom networking technologies to provide overall service ownership.

The Senior Director, GSM/LTE Services is the technical leader for all GSM and LTE services, including; network design, solution deployment and network availability. This position is at the heart of Aeris’ Internet of Things (IoT) optimized network and is a critical role for our cutting-edge technology platform. Within the Operations Team, the Senior Director, GSM/LTE Services, will have overall ownership to ensure a phenomenal customer experience for all GSM and LTE customers. This includes managing the expansive growth Aeris is experiencing within the IoT space and providing cutting edge features and services for our customers. The role is also responsible for designing and operating core routing and switching environments, mobile IP session management and data transport from remote devices to host applications.

This is an important position that requires a unique blend of hard-core technical hands on expertise and the ability to lead as well as interact and communicate effectively with a variety of people on a daily basis. You will work with a team that has a ‘whatever it takes’ attitude to make things happen and provide an excellent experience to our internal and external customers. Key Responsibilities:

  • Leader and service owner for the overall Aeris GSM and LTE networks
  • Provide leadership, technical guidance, coaching and management of all direct reports across multiple locations (Chicago, Santa Clara, Noida (India))
  • Manage the hiring and resource management within the Core group related to GSM and LTE Services, including growth of skill set and training for current and new staff members
  • Interface with various teams within Aeris including Engineering, Product Management for new product development, Sales and Sales Engineering for new customer requirements, and Project Management for resource planning
  • Work in accordance to budgets and forecasts keeping overall business goals in mind
  • Resolve highly complex technical design or service issues that cannot be resolved through normal operations and maintenance procedures and provide leadership for root cause analysis to drive issue resolution and limit impact to the customer
  • Engage in vendor management issues, provide expert consultative support during major upgrades as well as recommend network parameter settings
  • Provide input to ensure operational needs are the highest priority and assist to define monitoring, troubleshooting, and procedural requirements. Lead efforts to respond to performance related issues and provide proactive approach to network issues that ensure high availability
  • Develop and deliver training programs and support documentation to other team members and departments on new operation, maintenance and troubleshooting procedures
  • Perform network architecture reviews and develop detailed engineering design and deployment plans

Key Skills & Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years working experience in a similar Telecom field or 12+ years of equivalent job experience
  • Strong team building, leadership, management and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to be analytical and investigative in order to compile detailed problem and solution specifications
  • Ability to troubleshoot, apply critical thinking and find solutions in high-pressure situations while maintaining a calm and collected approach
  • Strong technical GSM/LTE foundation to enable cross-functional, cross-discipline technical learning
  • In-depth understanding of network protocols for 3GPP Release 8/9 as well as a complete understanding of the Core Network topology of GSM and LTE networks including signaling, SMS and packet core layers
  • Hands on experience with Core Network elements such as GGSN, HSS, DSR / DSE, PCRF and HLR, MSC, GGRS, SGSN
  • Knowledge of SS7 Protocol with thorough call flow analysis capability at message and parameter level
  • Experience in system performance analysis, capacity management and optimization.
  • Working knowledge with networking protocols (IPv4, IPv6, TCP, SCTP) and the OSI network model  
  • Experience with system planning, engineering and design in a highly-available & complex environment
  • Experience supporting commercial, 24x7, customer-facing and revenue generating systems
  • Technical proficiency in mobile / cellular IP subject matter
  • Proficiency with network diagnostic tools, including but not limited to ping, traceroute, netcat, tcpdump, and wireshark are a plus
  • Knowledge of CDMA architectures and call flows are a plus
