At Groupon, experimentation is a fundamental component of how we build products. Every new feature we ship to production is controlled, monitored, and analyzed using our custom tools. In an organization committed to fast learning and incremental delivery you have teams shipping new features (and new experiments) to production every day. This rapid pace requires a system that’s both simple for teams to use and capable of tracking hundreds of concurrent experiments in real time.  

On any given day we process and store terabytes of user telemetry and experimentation data which drives product decisions for the organization across the globe. This effort requires systems of a scale you’ll only find at top technology companies like Groupon.

What you’ll do

We’ve laid the foundation for experimentation at Groupon but there’s still much to be done. Working as part of an agile team you’ll help deliver the next iteration of our experimentation platform. We work full-stack so you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to each component and realize new features end-to-end.  

You will work on the web applications and microservices that let teams build experiments and interpret results. You will become proficient in a number of languages including Javascript/Coffeescript (Node.js) and Ruby. You will build UIs and reporting dashboards using Ember.js. You will learn how to use Hadoop and Hive to efficiently process and analyze massive data streams.

Basic Requirements

• 5+ years experience
• Experience developing in Ruby, Ruby on Rails, JavaScript and/or Coffeescript.
• A passion for continuous improvement and exploring new technologies.  

Nice, but not required

• Experience building browser applications with Ember.js.
• Experience with messaging systems or high volume stream processing.
• Experience with Hadoop, Hive, or Data Warehouse databases.  
• General interest in and knowledge of statistics.
