We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help bring our prototype to market.

We help pediatricians bring a higher quality of out-of-hours care to parents and their kids. We’re working in a highly regulated market (think HIPAA) and we’re planning on bringing modern systems into an industry that is surprisingly low-tech.

We’ve got a great CTO with a tonne of experience, but a talented engineer to work with them is vital. You'll collaborate closely with them to refine the current features and systems and to develop brand new ones.

You're a software engineer with experience building web application with a particular affinity for the front-end. You bring a complementary set of skills to those of the CTO which includes:

  • ReactJS: Ohana is built iteratively with changes occurring all over the application. You're comfortable building resilient React components in the context of a larger web application.

  • Node.js: Our backend on Node.js and you’ll need to be comfortable working with common libraries and writing ES6 code.

  • UI/UX: The users of Ohana will be physicians and parents. It's vital that our application looks simple and clean and is very easy to use. Your experience in design will be a major part of our development process.

  • Testing: Parents will be using Ohana when their kids are sick so they have a very low tolerance for failures. You are passionate about testing your code deeply, but pragmatically.

In addition to those points, you should also bring experience in some (if not all) of the following areas:

  • HIPAA: We'll provide access to any necessary training, but if you have experience in HIPAA environments, that will really help

  • AWS: If you've worked with AWS, that'll help you (and us) with design and deployment of systems.

  • Agile/Lean Principles: We're going to be using a Kanban approach to developing software, with a view to deliver and features and iterate rapidly. Exposure to these techniques will stand you in good stead.

Finally, as well as all the technical stuff, you should be passionate about being part of a team striving to make a positive impact on how people access healthcare. Also, you'll be 50% of the engineering team, so being a top notch debugger and researcher will be vital, because you'll only have one person in the office to turn to if things get sticky.

We may be small, right now, but it's crucial to us that, from day one, we're bringing together folks from a diverse range of backgrounds. We want applicants from all backgrounds regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, age, marital status, disability, gender identity, sex, and country of origin.

We will be offering a good salary, company equity, medical & dental benefits and the chance to have a major impact on a company right at its inception.
