Trustwave, a leader in cloud-based compliance and information security solutions, is looking for a Sr. Systems Administrator to work on the Infrastructure Team in Chicago. The Systems Team is the division of IT that manages all internal systems and applications. The Senior Systems Administrator reports to the Infrastructure Team Manager.

The Sr. Systems Administrator will perform advanced senior-level storage administration of enterprise class Storage Area Network (SAN), and Network Attached Storage (NAS) environments, as well as daily SAN and NAS administration and problem resolution.  He/She will also be responsible for performing system software upgrades, including planning/scheduling, testing, and coordination; server administration and setup. Other responsibilities include, coordinating disk space planning and management, maintaining growth statistics, space forecasts, software and hardware inventories, monitoring and maintaining continuity with system software licensing and maintenance agreements, and providing recommendations regarding hardware and system software planning and budgeting. This role works under minimal supervision with considerable flexibility for the use of initiative and independent judgement, and often acts as project leader for projects with limited duration.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and maintain various storage architectures (Dell Compellent and EqualLogic technologies preferred) in production, non-production, and disaster recovery environments.
  • Ensure storage infrastructure and data have high availability and are functioning at optimal performance.
  • Monitor and maintain the storage infrastructure through detailed analysis and review.
  • Provide Tier 3 support in troubleshooting Storage (Dell) hardware, software and application related problems.
  • Engineer and implement networked file systems such as NFS or CIFS.
  • SAN to SAN based data replication as well as host based replication.
  • Performance Tuning and SAN implementations.
  • Disaster recovery solutions including VSphere Replication and Compellent Replication.
  • Solid understanding of both Linux (CentOS), and Windows (2008R2/2012R2) operating systems.
  • Configure and support VMware ESXi 5.5 and 6.0
  • Install, configure, and manage a highly available and scalable virtual infrastructure.
  • Manage and ensure availability of virtual data stores residing on storage area networks and local disks. 
  • Prepares technical documentation for engineers and management to support complex infrastructures in a multi-site environment.
  • Assists managers with decisions regarding the technical direction of the enterprise storage and server infrastructure.
  • Interacts with vendors through program implementation and maintenance
  • Fulfill ITIL processes such as Incident, change, and problem management.
  • Ability to build capacity and sustainability plans.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast paced and evolving environment
  • Passion for providing outstanding support of inbound incidents
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills with a scientific approach to problem investigation and resolution including in-depth root cause analysis.
  • Lead efforts in the design, testing, and implementation of new systems architectures.
  • Work closely with OEM, break-fix and integration vendors during systems implementation and troubleshooting.
  • Work with various Application/Development teams gathering requirements, analyzing them, and then developing solutions to meet those requirements.
  • Perform research on new technologies and provide findings through verbal presentations and written reports.
  • Assist Application/Development teams with database performance related problems.
  • Perform other project related tasks as assigned by Manager on various initiatives.

Minimum requirements 

  • Four (4) year’s Storage Area Network Engineering.
  • Storage Area Network (SAN) administration in both Fiber Channel and ISCSI environments.
  • SAN switch experience (Cisco preferred).
  • Four (4) year’s VMware system administration experience (preferred Version 5.x/6.x).
  • Experience with VMWare vSAN, vRA, NSX, and vROps preferred
  • Solid OS System Administration Skills (both Windows and Red Hat Linux).
  • Server hardware support experience in a heavy Dell environment. 
  • Network Administration experience (Firewalls, F5 Load Balancers, LAN, DNS, etc.).
  • Experience with MS SQL and mySQL and storing, replicating and recovering databases.
  • Scripting experience (PowerShell, VBS, Bash, or shell scripts).
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Able to work and interact with others in a structured/team environment.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail, must have organizational skills.
  • Independent problem solver with troubleshooting, decision making and analytical skills.
  • Requires limited supervision.
  • Self-motivated, a self-starter, with excellent time management skills.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate to nontechnical audience any technical issues.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and be on-call.
  • MCSE, VMware VCP and Data Center Virtualization preferred.
  • Must be able to lift 20-40 lbs. of computer related equipment.
  • Must be able to travel locally and/or nationally.
  • Data Center migration experience a plus.

Education:

We prefer college-educated applicants, but at minimum, high school diploma or equivalent is required for employment.
