Groupon’s Global Finance Engineering team is looking for great engineers. We’re a small, independent, agile team, that collaborates directly with our internal users to make sure our hundreds of thousands of merchants around the world get paid accurately and on time. We’re looking for people that can have an immediate impact on core infrastructure, so experience with scale and distributed systems is preferred. Anyone with software engineering experience a passion for detail and learning are, however, encouraged to apply.

There are not a lot of boundaries here, so expect to make a big impact.  The code we check in is deployed internationally every day and is responsible for billions of dollars in payments. It provides the finance and accounting tooling for people in 21 countries (and counting). We need people that will take pride in the quality of their code and take it personally when there’s a bug.

The kind of stuff you’ll be doing:

• Designing high-performance RESTful web (micros) services
• Helping solve the new problems thrown up by having many micro-services
• Tracking millions of transactions across billions of dollars (and euros, pounds, reals, etc.) in near real time

 The kind of experience we expect:

• BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
• Track record of building cool, at-scale web applications
• Expert in at least one modern dynamic language (e.g. Ruby, Python, Perl) and preferably one compiled language (C, Java). We mainly use Ruby and Clojure.
• JVM-fu a major plus
• Strong familiarity with SQL database programming and performance
• Excellent proficiency with *NIX development environments
• Excellent understanding of how internet and Web technologies work
